Is anyone planning to participate in the Day of Silence?
April 18, 2007: The Day of Silence is an annual event held to commemorate and protest anti-LGBT bullying, harassment and discrimination in schools. Students and teachers nationwide will observe the day in silence to echo the silence that LGBT and ally students face everyday. In it's 11th year, the Day of Silence is one of the largest student-led actions in the country.

I'll put it on my calendar. Thanks for the info. I was uninformed about it. Be well.

I am a lesbian and I completely dislike the whole concept and do not participate in it since I feel it's rather contradictory. Rather ironic to have a day of silence in order to raise awareness for harrassment, bullying, etc. of gay and lesbian people when what we should be doing is raising our voices up to the sky and being progressive about it. Silence isn't the answer. Showing the rest of the nation examples of what the harrassment has done and putting forth more rules, regulations and vigilance throughout schools can put an end to such ostracism. Everyone must be on the same page before such progression can occur. Silence is a poor excuse for the volume we need to turn up to get some attention.

When I was in college I participated and helped put on events and give information to people. Now that I am not in school anymore it is harder to participate, but I support it fully.

No, I'm not in school but I do interface with a special needs one, and introducing that to these kids is too much for them to handle. (its grades 1-6). Maybe if they were older, but its really not my place to set curriculm to special needs kids who have a hard time just focusing.

Yes. Our college's gay and lesbian student organization participates every year. We wear black tape in the shape of an "X" over our mouths all day.
