The wheel is a balanced rotating assembly. You are trusting your life to this assembly. Wouldn't you want it right?

If the wheel is damaged, it could have been knocked out of balance or worse you could have compromised the integrity of the wheel and it may fail.

That's why people get upset about curb rash. You'll have to take a look at yours and see just how bad it is. It's more than just cosmetics.

It won't necessarily screw up the driving, though it can.

If the "curbed" wheel is damaged enough, a piece of the alloy wheel can be broken off and allow the tire to go flat, or worse blow out.

If the scratch is substantial enough, on older alloys, it can be the beginning of a bad crack, again which can cause a blow-out, and consequent loss of control.

The same holds true for the tire as well. If the damage is server enough, or repeated enough, the tire can sustain enough damage to fail.

It is best to either slow down when parking, or at least learn where the curb is in relationship to the wheel. It takes practice.

This is one of those things that tells the world what kind of a driver you are, similar to having all sorts of body dings and scratches.

Frank is nice. In circumstances previous, tire width replaced right into a lot more advantageous than the wheel width so as that rubbing adverse to a scale down ought to in person-friendly words scratch the tire sidewall. As wheels were given taller, wider and in the route of the floor, the probability of wheel damage has dramatically higher.
