Please tell me that it is point gaming and not the level of intelligence in the military section.

It could be point gaming but it's too hard to tell without knowing who is actually voting.
Many people may have thought that North Alliance Treaty Organization sounds right and more official sounding. I voted for the one that provided a source when I went to your link. Good question. Maybe Yahoo needs to reformat and show who votes.

If it got 83% of the votes, it means the asker failed to choose a best answer and left the question hanging. Enough voters got in before the deadline to choose the wrong answer. The points here are worthless and meaningless so why would someone try to rig the outcome. Who knows how voters think? Look what we get at the ballot box! As for the oxymoron in your expansion, doesn't that tell everything?

I just voted for Answerer Number ONE, which changed that looser number 3 to a 45% answer. (still winning, though)
In the seven hours remaining, let's hope more intelligent people vote for NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION. choice 1 or 2, please.
I am an expert on Cristopher Columbus, and on Charles Dickens' story..."A Christmas Carol". I am often amazed at all the stupid wrong answers that get a vote.
The people who ask the question should be penalized 5 points if they don't pick a "BEST" within 6 days.
HURRAY!! North Atlantic WON... and I guess we all know who gave us all a "thumbs down" sore looooser.

Probably not points gaming.
More likely lots of people being wrong.
You also see the same thing in Law and Ethics, where someone will ask a legal question, and people vote for what they wish the law was, rather than what the law actually is.

If every answer to a question is an 'I don't know' answer, why would you penalize the asker for not picking one of them as a Best Answer?
So Yahoo Answers isn't perfect . . . You get what you pay for.

I just voted and helped to change the balance.
I don't see this as points gaming, just as people voting for the wrong answer. Points gaming is when people answer with "I don't know" or "I don't care" - that really gets my goat.
The one you should be reaming here is Priscilla for her spelling of "definition"!!
