If you know who you are going to vote for in 2008, who is it and WHY?

I am emphasizing WHY very much! Only serious answers please. Since joining this community, I have read SO many people trying to promote who they believe ought to be elected in 2008, but I have not heard any facts as to WHY they are voting for that particular individual or prefer them over others. Give me some insight, because as it stands now, one would think that the only people running for the Dems are Hillary and Barack and for the Repubs it's Rudy, Mitt, or John McCain.

Other Dems running are John Edwards, Bill Richardson, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, and Dennis Kucinich. Other Repubs include Sam Brownback and Mike Huckabee.

I would like to hear some really good reasons. I already know who I'm voting for and why. Try to convince me your candidate is the best choice and perhaps my mind could be changed?

Update:

Mika,

Not a very good "WHY" answer.....

Update 2:

Battlin' Bucco,

Thank you for a great answer....the who and the "WHY"!!!

Update 3:

The Law,

And thank you for the who and the WHY!!! Excellent!!

Update 4:

Jason S & Lonestar,

I completely understand your logic on third party candidates. I voted for the third party candidate for governor here in Texas -- Kinky.

Update 5:

Bramblyspam,

Excellent argument for the Libertarians. I liked that you used Milton Friedman...

Update 6:

For Gondor,

One, I am not one of the political trolls and two, if you had read the ENTIRE question, you would see that I was putting an emphasis on WHY.... I really don't care as to the WHO, more so the why......

Update 7:

Sandy Man,

Thanks! Excellent answer!!

Update 8:

BeachBum,

Thanks! Very good rationale!!

Update 9:

think richly,

Great detail on Ron Paul. Being from Texas, I have already had a friend of mine here to try and convince me also! Thanks!

Update 10:

Stealth,

Excellent answer with a lot of thought --- and humor! Thanks!

I will vote for John Edwards in the Democratic primary. Here are my reasons. I believe he came up as a middle class american, and had to work his way through college. He served as a prosecutor and a civil trial lawyer helping people in fights that he believed in. As a Senator he fought for unions, public assistance for college education and I believe he thinks that you can make it in America if you are given a good education and a good job. He actually seems to believe that and he believes in taking action and getting down in the mudd with people. He has been to New Orleans numerous times trying to bring attention to the fact that help has still not arrived for them. That tells me he would have been the better choice last time over President Bush.

I will vote for the libertarian party nominee, whoever that may be.

Why? Because in my opinion, both of the major parties have proven themselves totally unacceptable - and you'll never get a third option unless you vote for it.

Moreover, voting for a third party is not a wasted vote. As Milton Friedman used to say, the most successful party of the last century was the socialist party. The socialists may never have gotten more than 5% of the vote, but if you go back and look at their party platforms from the early 1900's, they've been enacted into law virtually in their entirety. Basically, what happened is that any time the socialists got more than a couple percent in the polls, the major parties adopted the socialists' most popular issues. When the socialists coudn't run on those issues anymore, they lost their support - but their issues carried the day.

I'd like to see the libertarians have similar success in the coming century. Yeah, they're a bunch of nutcases (just like the socialists, greens, and indeed just like most democratic and republican party activists). However, I do believe we need to move in the direction of lesser government, and the way to get there is by voting for a party that truly advocates going in that direction.

I may never see my candidates get elected, but I really don't care about that. The important thing to me is getting my preferred policies enacted. It won't happen in one election, but I plan to be alive for quite a few more decades, and I tend to keep a long term perspective on these kinds of things.

I am still waiting for the real sense and purpose driven candidates to take a stand on issues.

Culling voteing records, and this days opinions and answers by the candidate, as to why [x] vote was made and what the resoning for it is.

The media is a bear and a bull to get around to find the facts. That is what I have allways cast my vote on, the facts and the reality of now. What did candidate [x] do about [y] not what they intend to do.

Many a glass house are built on intentions only to be shattered by the stones of discontent.

I like the PVS site, it has relative information.

    Project Vote Smart

In three months I might have a decision made, until then I am here this day and support any and all that participate in a Freedom that was once garunteed in the Constitution.

The electoral college thing is a sham, or just not clear thinking. If a state that votes for (party) is populated by (other party) that state will 'elect' the most popular. Not the most voted for, but what the few decide for the many.

So I wait and see wich one is telling and doing the good stuff, then when I walk in I cast my vote for,,,

Some woman, it is about time this country really fessed up and showed ourselves that a woman or a man can make Democratic choices for and of a Republic.

Serious answer - Tom Tancredo. He is the only candidate with the conviction to stand up and say definitively that he will work to kick out illegal aliens. I believe this issue is of the greatest importance to this country. We're at a tipping point on this. Also, the fact that he will stand up and say what he believes indicates he is not a typical power hungry politician. He's in it for the good of the country, and that's rare these days. I regret that only the "mainstream" candidates are really considered viable anymore, but I couldn't vote for them in good conscience.

Oh my goodness what a great question.

It's between Obama and Edwards and here's why:

Both men have an enormous amount of integrity and are forward thinking candidates. I trust they will move this country in the right direction and away from the monopoly other 'candidates' seems to want; this is called 'greedy'. I 'hear' other candidates can't take care of their own home front nevertheless run a country. These are very critical times and I just can't trust my vote with anyone else but these two men.

Besides, I just don't feel like worrying about my daughter as she starts her internship in DC. I would hate to hear she was 'touched' by someone's husband. I'd have to kick his Cat Daddy azz!

Come on, the Political Trolls have answered this enough.

I won't tell you my choice but I will say that it will not be a liberal.

Beyond that I need to listen to what each has to say then make an informed choice.

    EDIT

You want a why? That is really impossible to give until I have all the information, as I said above. Then one issue or the other will probably tip the balance towards that person. BTW, I was not calling YOU a troll, I was saying there are people who "troll" this board daily, all day and it seems this answer has been asked uncountable times.

But here goes, these issues are important to me:

The War-I do not wish to cut and run

    Healthcare-No socialization, just ask Canada

Education-Many points concern me including: allowing kids to pass below level and the back seat the proper teaching of history has taken

Religion-I want freedom to pray in school if my child chooses. And if my athiest neighbor is upset because come Christmas I put a nativity with 12 foot cross on my front yard, just don't look. And if my other neighbor wishes me to help him put up his giant menora, sounds great.

    Stem cell research-yes

    abortion-no late term but I am pro-choice

afirmative action-no. the best resume gets the job even if its a purple hermaphadyte.

    same sex marriage-no

same sex civil unions-yes, and necessary. Especially if they intend to adopt children.

social security-I wanted Bush's plan. I'll never see my SS unless I am allowed to have it myself and put it into a savings acount of my choice.

Now you know where I stand basically. The one falling closest in line with that would be my most likely choice. Jeez.

I'm voting for Ron Paul (R) Texas for 2008 presidential elections.

I will vote for him because he is one of the few in congress who has the guts to speak the truth, and stands by his own principles. He will defend the constitution and the civil liberties of the American people against big government.

Ron Paul is against the Iraq war. He is one of the few who voted against it, and he wants to bring the troops home. He is looking out for the American troops - the longer they stay in Iraq, the messier it gets and more American lives will be lost, and the war isn't going to get better. So, the best option is to pull out and cut the losses. America simply can't afford the war - it's already costing us more than we can afford. Staying in Iraq doesn't solve any problems - it only creates more problems.

Ron Paul is against illegal immigration. He will tighten up the borders, and he will take away the entitlements that are attracting the illegal immigrants.

Ron Paul is against big government. He thinks the government is getting too big and inefficient, and too beuraucratic. He will cut down the size of the government and trim spending.

Ron Paul is against invasion of civil liberties by the government. He voted against the Patriot Act.

Ron Paul is against agressive foreign policy. He thinks America is overly agressive and is creating too many enemies, and spreading itself too thin.

Ron Paul is pro-life. As a doctor and obstetrician, he values life.

Ron Paul is against irresponsible and wasteful spending by the government. He will put stops to wasteful spending.

Ron Paul is for sound money and against excessive taxes. He will curtail the powers of the Federal Reserve System because it is unconstitutional.

Whoever is the most conservative. Less government waste, strong military, securing borders, no amnesty, continued support for the war against islamic radicals, ect.

I have to say that so far I like Giuliani most out of the front runners, and Duncan Hunter for his stance on ILLEGAL immigration if we are talking long shots.

Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, or Ron Paul because they all support border security and are against amnesty.
