Keeping a New Bike Looking Great...?

So, I've never owned a brand new motorcycle. I'm getting my first today. Aside from regular maintenance are there any other nice tips/tricks to keeping it looking/running great as long as possible.

My current bike is old and has lived on the CA coast all its life. The salty air has done a number on the exhaust pipes and other non-painted surfaces. I don't want this one to end up like that.

wash when dirty, rewax when the water doesnt bead, keep the chrome polished, and keep the brake dust from accumulating on the rims as much as possible. belive it or not, brake dust is very hard on rims.

salt air is hard on anything it comes in contact with. in that case, i'd definately would want to keep up on the wax's.

You will want to polish the chrom every month and also make sure a good coat of wax is always on the paint

If you cant see the water bead then it needs another coat!

I use mothers chrome polish. You will most likely get tiny specks of rust on it due to the salty air but polishing with remove the speks of rust before they spread

XL-1 made by Spectro for washes (won't harm any surface but cleans brake dust & road dirt and grime).

Back To Black for your black or drk colored plastics (it's like armor-all but way better).

Plexis for detailing (designed for gov't jet-fighter canopies) Works great on anything also. But I don't think it will have provide enough protection from salt so you'll have to use a wax too. I suggest Meguiars (haven't used but hear good stuff about it).

Please keep your Local dealerships alive by buying from them instead of online. They may have to order the stuff you want but you will get it in the same time frame as if you ordered online, right. Good luck to ya...Ride On.

Just wash it once a week and don't slide it on the ground. LOL

I know someone will disagree but I use simple green to clean the hard to clean area like the chain, sprockets, undertail and wheels. (try not to get it on the tires).

Spray it on, wait 3 minutes and spray it off. looks like new.

My chains generally last 20k miles and that aint to bad on a GSXR1000.

whatever bike you get, I'm sure that the dealer has a whole shelf dedicated to keeping it looking new from soaps, to waxes to polishers and cleaners. Just ask them.
