Small for dates ultrasound...?

I just got back from my 33 week check up at the doctors. She ordered another ultrasound for Thursday saying I am "small for dates". Has anyone else had this happen? What were the results?

Don't be alarmed. Every baby grows at it's own pace. Everything is based on averages. Some babies go into sudden growth spurts. Some grow rapidly in the beginning, (like mine) then seem to mellow out. Others do the opposite (like yours) grow really small in the beginning then burst with growth.

On the other hand, if the doctor was just measuring your belly, this is no real indication of anything. You baby moves and settles in different ways. It could simply be that your baby has tucked itself in tight toward the back leaving your stomach small. This is more than likely why your doctor may be requesting and ultrasound. This will give more of an accurate result.

Give yourself and your baby some rest. Don't stress out until it is time to stress out. If it was really a huge concern, the doctor would have responded immediately and not let any time go by. Relax, praise God and have a wonderful day.

This means that the baby is measuring smaller than your 33 week pregnancy. Remember, the doctor is only feeling your belly and guessing the baby's size: there is room for error. An ultrasound is a more accurate measuring tool, although not foolproof. This happened to me. Original due date was Dec. 15. Baby was measuring smaller so they pushed due date to Dec. 24. I ended up delivering on Dec. 12. The baby was just small-4 lbs 11 ounces. Remember, these are just estimates. There is no way to tell for sure when you will deliver. I also had an ultrasound with one of my pregnancies and the doctor said my baby would be close to 9 lbs: she was 7 lbs 11 ounces.

no women measures to the exact date through out there entire preg. it depends on the way the baby is laying and the amount of fluid you have. small for dates is just sometimes and excuse also to have a another ultrasound to see how much the baby weighs...insurance companies will not cover them if the physician writes check growth, so instead they will say small or large for dates...no preg. women is the same as any other preg women everyone measures alittle different..I would just sit back and enjoy being pregnant you dont haveto many more weeks to have that feeling.

I think that means that at 33 weeks the baby should feel bigger (through stomach palputations). It could be that you're carrying the baby different, an ultra-sound will give you a better estimate of the baby's size and hopefully will clear up any confusion.
