The purpose of Homework Help - What is it?

I have alwasys believed this category to serve a purpose of helping students do their homework, not to do their homework for them. Last night I recieved a violation for answering a question. This is the question : Some more questions I need help with (please give me answers only and correct answers please)?

This was my answer : Give you answers only? No, do your own homework.

I answered that way, because I felt the person questioning was using Homework Help to do all his work for him. I thought the best answer he could get was to do it himself so he would learn. If he had not stated answers only I would have been happy to show him how to work it out.

Have I violated the guidelines/ terms of service? I have read them and I can't see where I have broached them. Surely the asker is breaching them as he plans to pass our work off as his own.

I am therefor left with the opinion that YahooAnswers set up Homework Help to do the work for them. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Update:

Traucer Twee - I was the one answering, not asking.

Magic - what's with the "."?

No! You have done nothing wrong. You are not wrong in your line of thought. As a matter of fact, Yahoo Answers violated their own terms of service with you.

There always will be students and adults, who will want the answers, whether they are for real or just joking around. As much as I like to hand out good advice, there will always be someone who objects to it.

Continue to help other who sincerely need your help. Do not let your rejection prevent you from helping others, and ignore the ones that you suspect or who want answers to their homework only.

Well, the homeworks are works that should be done at home. Your question s answer is not that easy. I know lots of children who use google to make their research projects. They usually don't even read those long long biographies. Print and take to school. Some teachers banned using printers to prevent this. You may find an answer to any of your questions here but ,ı think homework help is not good. People should study to find the answers instead of wasting time to ask here and try to figure out which given answer is the correct one.

I agree with you, somewhat... because everyone should learn how to do their own homework by themselves, but if Yahoo! Answers set up Homework Help, it was for the purpose of helping others do their homework (by the way, I do my HW by myself). Unfortunately there are some people who can't. If you just don't want to answer the homework question, you don't have to, (and I'm not trying to be rude or anything by saying this, if I'm being rude, SORRY!).

No, I don't think you violated the guidelines or terms of service, since you didn't give the person the answers. Yes, they should do their own homework, but sometimes people do need help. Maybe you can be there for somebody, sometime. God Bless, Martha S.

Well, you asked them for the actual ANSWER. You have to ask how to REACH the ANSWER. You need to ask for a step by step tutorial on how to do the certain question or problem you're facing.

If you're really having enough problems to resort to an online homework helper, tell your teacher about it.

I don't know what you did wrong. too many kids (and at least one parent) are asking for others to do the work for them and not trying to do it themselves. when the teacher gives the test, they won't be able to ask here.

People just ask questions about homework. If they don't understand it. I understand where you're coming from though. But, I think you're blowing this out of proportion.
