Car Seats on airplanes and a Cab ride after?
Do I take a car seat along with me for my toddler during flights ? If yes what is the age limit ? Would my 3 yr old's car seat fit in an airplane seat ?
Will I be allowed to take the carseat for International flights ? If I don't how do I come back home from the airport - I heard the cabs do not carry carseats. Can I ask for a cab with a carseat ? Pls share your experience on a cab ride from airport when you don't have a carseat.. Thanks

It is definitely safer to bring and install a carseat for your 3-yo during the flight. Remember that turbulence can happen, and airplane seats only have lapbelts. Some seats (not all!) are FAA-approved for airplane use. For international flights, check with the airline as to their policy - the FAA does not govern international routes, only those that are in US airspace.
Also, don't check it in as baggage - you don't know what damage can occur to the seat with all the throwing around in baggage handling. I'd either install it, or gate check it. If you get one of those luggage carts for it, you can also use it as a "stroller" in the airport. This is what I'm planning to do in May when we fly from Milwaukee to Malaysia with my 4-yo.
And yes, install the seat in the cab when you get to your destination(s). Check out www.car-seat.org if you have more questions. hth!

I would take your car seat - and make sure for the cab that you actually install it - - I would check your car seat as baggage as the airlines do not require car seats for toddlers - and most under 2 years are lap children as there is only a nominal fee for that on international flights.
After claiming your luggage - you will have to reinstall the car seat in the cab -

Take your carseat with you. Buy a ticket for your child and install his/her seat on the plane as well as in the cabs at your destination.

You will have to check with the airlines about car seats. I know for children under 2 they are required (usually). As to the cab, check with that state or country about their seat belt laws. You might be required to have your own, but you might be able to get away with a small booster. It would probably fit in your luggage or the overhead on the plane. We are traveling this summer with a 2-1/2 year old, and this is what we have found out.
Also, I know from traveling with my daughter when she was two, it cost the same for her to sit on my lap as opposed to having her own seat on the plane. They also said it was safer for her to have her own seat.

You take your car seat on board for infants only, after the age of 2, I would suggest gate checking your car seat, I wouldn't travel without one in any city.
