  • My kindergartner is confused between 13 & 30, 14 & 40, etc?

My daughter says thirteen for 30 and thirty for 13 - they sound so similar ( I really feel like beating up the guy who worded these :-) She gets it right many times but she is also confused many times.. same goes for 14 & 40, 15 & 50 and so on..

I know practice makes perfect but other than making her practice are there any tricks you might have used to identify the numbers correctly ? Getting the numbers correctly would even build her (or any other kid's) confidence. Suggestions please

    Thanks

  • Beyond theme Parks at Orlando - What else can we do ?

    Hi

I'm traveling to Orlando with my three and half yr old so we are visiting just Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom & MGM for 4 days. We do have boating at our resort but we still have 3 more days to spend - looking for ideas.

Other than Kennedy Space center and Gator land what other non-theme park attractions/activities do we have there ? I heard about Disney Downtown and Disney Quest - Can you advise what are the attractions there and how we can spend time there ?

Other suggestions are most welcome, many Thanks

  • What are the BEST rides for 3-4 yr olds at Disney World ?

I'm travelling to Orlando Disney with my 3.5 yr old daughter for the FIRST time in the next few days and would like to make the most out of it.

    Our plan

    Magic Kingdom (1 day),

    Animal kingdom (1 day)

    MGM (1 day).

We are also going for the Pirate Princess party which is 4pm-Midnight affair and I hope there isn't much rush that time for the rides.

Can you suggest what are the BEST rides out there so I can target them first and for FAST passes as well.

We'll try to make it to the park by 9-10 am but gotta see how it works out. We all are quite excited - Any tips on how to get the FAST passes, how to plan out the rides, what to look for, etc. Any other suggestions are also welcome, Thanks

And the most important : We plan to leave a note with the contact details, names and numbers in my daughter's pocket in case she gets lost - is that sufficient, any better ideas, Thanks

  • Air Travel with Toddlers - Is a carseat mandatory ?

I'm travelling with my three and a half year old on a flight and i would like to carry a carseat to be used in the car I would rent after I land, not inside the flight. I think 3 1/2 is old enough to sit without a car/air seat - Do I have to carry one on the flight ?

Even though I have requested for a carseat on the rental car I'm not sure I would get one hence I intend to take the carseat, can I check it in ? Is this what all the people do everytime they fly ?

What about cabs - I'm sure they don't have carseats installed, I'm curious how do people take their babies/toddlers in cabs from airport to home or hotel ?

  • Question on seeing billions of light years into space?

How can one possibly see billions of light years into space - I'm not questioning the power of the telescope. If the light which was born 13 billion yrs ago took as much time to reach earth (so that we can see it) how come the earth is at this position sooner than light ? Are the scientists watching light which has been sort of reflecting in the universe ? If yes how can they be sure that this light which reached us now has originated some billions yrs ago unless they track the path ???

I have had this question for about a billion years :-)

  • What are the typical Home buying and selling costs ?

I have just started to look for a home to buy and I might have to move again in 3 yrs. I would like to know what are the typical buying and selling costs involved. I know this varies a lot but I'd like to get a rough estimate. Are these figures good

    Home : approx 400K

    Buy : Closing costs (incl attorney,titling,etc) - 3%

    Sell : Broker commission - 4-5%

    Any closing costs - 1% ?

If I buy today and sell in abt 3 yrs the costs only would run upto 9% which is $36000 ?

Do I still pay Broker comm if I list my home on ForSaleByOwner ?

    Home owners Pls advise.

    Many advance THanks

  • Upgrading from Windows XP to Vista after a Disk format?

I'm currently on XP. I have two drives and I'd like to reformat one of them and load Vista on both. Whats the best way to do it without losing my data.

I saved all the data onto my second drive. I plan to remove the second drive, format the first with Vista and plug in the second drive (which is still on XP) back. Would that work, is there a better way ? Thanks

  • All Parents of one kid - How's your kid doing without a sibling?

    All,

I have a 3yr old and we are at this juncture of deciding on a second kid - its a very very big decision for both of us. We are wuite happy with one kid but we wouldn't want it to affect our kid. From what I heard from parents with two or more kids, having a sibling helps. I would like to gather honest opinions and observations of parents with one kid -

    - How do you think it has affected your kid - mentally, emotionally and socially. Or do you think being single has no effect ?

    - Do you feel that your kid is better off with a sibling or not ? In what ways ?

    - How is your kid coping - has he/she expressed the need for a sibling ?

    Many advance thanks !!!

  • Involuntary blinking of eyes in toddlers?

My two and a half year old daughter has recently begun blinking her eyes about 3 weeks ago. We noticed that it was involuntary and thought that she might not be getting enough sleep but that is not the case. She blinks about 3-4 times every 5 min or so and its not normal blinking as the blink comes with an effort and the face also twiches a little.. The doctor says it could be allergy and gave some eye drops which didn't help - we are surely going back to the doc but did any of you face a situation like this and what did you do.. We are worried as the blinking/twitching has been increasing.. Pls advise, Thanks

Can a person without a SSN (but with a legal Tax identification number) develop a credit history ? This is for my friend who is on a dependent visa in the US but doesn't have a job yet (hence no SSN). What does it take to start building credit history so that it would help in the future since people with longer credit histories are preferred... Firstly Is it possible to begin credit history and if yes what are the best ways.. Thanks in advance.

I bought a HDTV which is 16:9 and although most of the HD Programming fits the screen perfectly I still have black bars on some programs. I thought that letterboxing happens only in 4:3 TVs when widescreen picture is shown. When a HDTV shows letterboxing what kind of programming is being shown OR is there something wrong with my TV ?
