Beyond theme Parks at Orlando - What else can we do ?
Hi
I'm traveling to Orlando with my three and half yr old so we are visiting just Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom & MGM for 4 days. We do have boating at our resort but we still have 3 more days to spend - looking for ideas.
Other than Kennedy Space center and Gator land what other non-theme park attractions/activities do we have there ? I heard about Disney Downtown and Disney Quest - Can you advise what are the attractions there and how we can spend time there ?
Other suggestions are most welcome, many Thanks

You should definitely check out SeaWorld and at least one of the two Disney waterparks, Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. There's also Discovery Cove (part of SeaWorld) which has dolphin interaction, but your child will be too young to actually play with the dolphins (it's also very expensive).
I'm guessing that you've made a conscious decision to skip Epcot center, but that's certainly an option (just don't go on Mission Space).

A 3 yr old is pretty easily entertained but a couple of suggestions would be the petting zoo out at Fort Wilderness Campground. It's free and small children enjoy animals more on their level. There is also a pony ride she might be able to take and makes a great photo op. There is also a small beach (no swimming allowed) where she could play in the sand. It also makes a great break in the theme park adventures which can be exhausting. Be resolved to the fact that in 4 days your not going to be able to see "everything" at Disney. Plan some down time and relax, it is your vacation afterall. Another off property idea might be to visit Old Town in Kissimmee. The have some smaller childrens rides as well as shopping and restaurants. Gatorland I don't think would be as exciting for a 3 yr old and actually might frighten them and KSC would be way above their head. I would say drive to the beach, but again your child won't really know the differance between the ocean and a large man-made lake, so save the driver time, pack a picnic lunch and pick one of the beach areas on Disney property. Downtown Disney is main shops and restaurants. There is a small train for children to ride and the Parrot show outside the Rainforest Cafe might be entertaining. For a great deal on lunch try the Earl of Sandwich shop..great food at reasonable prices. Downtown Disney also provides alot of good photo ops from Buzz Lightyear to the giant Lego store where kids can build things themselves, again FREE. Of course a trip into the World of Disney Store is must for any kid, so many toys and stuffed animals.. to lighten your wallet. All kids love ice cream so after lunch consider a treat from Ghirardelli's Ice Cream Shop. If your coming during the hotter summer months you might even considered taking in a movie at the West End of Downtown Disney. A great way to cool off in the heat of the day. Also on the West End is Cirque du Soleil with the production of La Nouba, expensive, but highly entertaining that even a 3 yr old may enjoy with the lights, colors and live action.
Another off site place you might want to consider for lunch would be the McDonalds on Sand Lake and I-Dr. It has the world's largest indoor play ground for kids. While your in that area you might consider visiting City Walk at Universal Studios. Park in Valet parking (if you eat there you can get a discount on parking) it avoids a long walk from the parking garage so well worth it costs. Talk a stroll around the shops, and see what Universal has to offer. Not as much for your child to do there but you might find it entertaining. Hope some of those suggestions help, remember relax and enjoy your vacation.

If you have a car, drive to Cocoa beach. It's on the East coast, so the water's a little rougher (than the Gulf), but it's cheap & fun with the kids.
