Email only Account?

My parents refuse to get into the 21st Century. Mostly I think they are just intimidated by the vastness of the internet, the horror stories of what is seen or said on the internet, and fear of having to learn to use a computer. So, I thought I would get them the most simpe base-line computer I can find. I'm sure I've heard about 'Email only accounts' but don't know where they are. Maybe if they were able to send and receive email I could ease them into higher technology later. Is there anything like what I'm looking for? Instant messaging would be great too, but not necessary.

don't know if this will help but there is yahoo.com which is free and very nice to use.and fairly simple

you can get netzero.coms free service for nine hours a month.or type in

internet service provider in search window and

look over the list of them. if money isn't an issue get then dsl at minimum choice.it doesn't tie up the home phone that way

i think yahoo would be the best bet after you get then online they can sign up for aol's free instant messenger and email service.

check out ebay.com for computers you might want something like a p111 1ghz or better with 250mgz of ram.they go for under a hundred bucks on ebay.com if you buy a slower one they might be to impatient to use

I was going to suggest the Celery originally, but the more I think of it why not just get them a Linux computer that's locked down? This way they can use Web sites and email, but you can also keep things easy for them and hard for them to mess up. There are some Linux distributions today (Linspire comes to mind offhand) that are even easier than Windows, not to mention cheaper. You can also Google for phrases like "a computer for your grandma" or similar--this type of phrase is used all the time both figuratively and literally in discussions of how to make technology easy and accessible to non-technical users.

You can get a free email account if you go to>http://www.yahoo.com/?rs=1 and then to mail and signup.

    They also have Instant messaging.

There are others too like aim, and windows live.

To access ANY mail, you would need an ISP so I doubt you will find one that provides just Email. That aint saying your parents have to know any better tho, at least until you spring it on them!

This reminds me of Juno. For a long time, all they did was offer email. (no web browsing)

You can see if they still have something comparable.
