Build New or Buy Refurbished Computer?

Question

I was planning on building a new computer (since my 5 year old dell is dead). As I began to research on build a computer I realized that the process is too complicated and there is so much the learn. Am thinking about buying a refurbished PC, but not sure how to find a good one. I plan to use the computer for some office work, download music, surf the web (no game playing).

Refurbished maybe good, but in some cases for just a hundred more you can buy a brand new PC with a year warranty instead of the 90 days.

I myself would go with an hp, since I have had very bed experience with dell computers as have many other people that I have talked to. If you go to the hp site, you can select what you want and don't want on it, or go the recommended settings and change what ever you want. it's real easy to do.

If your Dell is a Pentium 4 it might be worth fixing.  Call Dell Tech Support and have them troubleshoot it to find what's broken and find the part(s) on EBay.

On EBay you can also find refurbs and off-lease PC (those are PCs that companies have leased and the lease has expired so the finance companies take them back, rehab them and sell them on EBay.  I have gotten some great deals on these for friends and family who don't need the lastest and greatest on the market, anything out over the last 3-5 years is perfect for anyone who's not a high-end gamer or needs to edit videos.

I bought a refurbished PC 18 months ago have not had a single problem with it  In fact I only bought because the movers damaged the HD in my previous refurbished PC that I had for 3 yrs with No problems I mention all this to say that Microcenter is the place to go for a refurbished PC since they have treated me well for the past 5 yrs.

You mentioned that your dell crapped out  Don't toss the monitor because Microcenter sells thier PCs without them

Dell have good refurbished PC's at Dell Outlet. They are fully rebuilt and come with the same warranty as a new one.  I bought a couple of refurb desktops from them and they have been great.

Dell offers good deals and a comprehensive outlet catalog. I am also thinking for a new computer (not refurbished) and so far my research points towards Dell for general reliability and cost-value benefits.

ive built computers i can say you have to know which bit is compatible with which

try looking at (which?) for advice on building computers

i dont mind buying refurbished myself but new is always better
