How does the Mini DV Camcorder work?

With a Mini DV Camcorder do you record with a tape or by memory?

A mini dv camcorder records to mini dv tapes, which hold an hour of video in normal mode, or 90 minutes in lp mode. These tapes are not compatible with normal VHS VCRs (they are much smaller in size), so you'll either play them back through your camcorder, or load them onto your computer via a firewire interface, (you'll need a special card if you have a PC, macs have it built in), edit the video (if you want) using video editing software such as Microsoft Movie or iMovie, and then burn your finished video to a DVD if your computer has DVD RW drive.

You buy Mini-DV Tapes... There are also Mini-DV tapes with Memory built into them, called Mini-DV IC which have up to 16kb to store timecode info, pause/rec info, titles etc. Wich can be very handy for PostProduction work...

This is the current "Standard" format, as DVD and Harddrive based models are new, and still have many issues that need to be worked out...
