Probabilty Help?

If I had 2 green pens and I had 3 black pens and I pulled one of them out of a hat what is the probabilty of getting a green pen?

    It depends.

    If you loaded your hat with 3 red pens and 2 purple pens then the probability of getting a green pen would be zero.

    No of green pens = 2

    Favourable event n(E) = 2

    No. of black pens = 3

    Sample space = green pens + black pens

    n(s) = 2+3 = 5

    Probability P(E) = n(E)/n(S)

    =2/5

    =40%
