Other than the museums and monuments there is a lot of other stuff to do. Going to Georgetown is a lot of fun, you should definitely go there. There are a lot of clubs, bars, restaurants, and shopping. Rosslyn, Va, and Crystal City are loads of fun. Try taking a dinner cruise that takes you out on the Potomac River at night. There's food, dancing, and entertainment! Cheers!

You are going at a great season. Keep in mind that you can check out DC monuments at night time which is a diffferent experience from doing it in the day time. Also Go to the Pentagon and check this place out it has shops, and places to check out.
Also keep in mind that there is a DC tourist guide via online that you should check out and ask them via email to send you the tour book that has all the listings of things to do besides Museums!

Don't forget the National Zoo. It's free!! October is a great month as the weather offers a better chance to see more of the animals that summer doesn't. The pandas are a huge draw but with many new trails and exhibits it shouldn't be missed. It's also a beautiful walk.

In October, definitely go and drive Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah Mountains. It is absolutely gorgeous up there!

Contact your congressmen. They can open doors to places you can't, and they should be glad to do it. Mine were. A great time to go
