  • Where's a good place to eat out in the Phoenix area?

I'll be in Surprise and my friend lives in Gilbert so we want something kind of in between. We need a family friendly place since we'll be bringing our babies with us.

  • How can I connect my laptop to the internet using my Sprint/Nextel cellphone?

We have a USB cable and installed the driver but I can't seem to figure it out. It's my husband's phone and he has the Simply Everything plan, which includes unlimited data. We're not very tech savvy so we don't know exactly what to do.

  • Why are Bible verses sometimes separated by commas & other times with dashes even though they are in a row?

For example, whey would it be Proverbs 3:5,6 instead of Proverbs 3:5-6?

  • I have a pocket of fluid underneath where I banged my lower leg - what could it be?

First, I'm going to the doctor later today, so no need to tell me to go to a doctor. But the curious side of me is wondering what this could be. I fell down a couple of stairs 3 weeks ago and got really bruised up. The lower part of my leg, just above the ankle, is where the point of impact was. I have no idea how I didn't sprain my ankle during the fall.

The area did swell up after the fall and the area has become very hard. I had a similar injury several years ago and so I wasn't surprised by the hardening of the area. I saw my doctor back then too because I was afraid I may have broken a bone (back then I had hurt my ankle more). Nothing came of it and she just told me to rest.

But a couple days ago, I felt a stinging pain and a small area where a pocket of fluid has developed. I am afraid that it could be an infection and I'm scared.

  • I fell down some steps and hurt my foot/lower leg - now it's really bruised?

Two days ago, I was walking with my baby (in his carseat) from the pediatrician's office to my car. There were there 3 steps I had to walk down and I fell when I was either on the 2nd or 3rd step down. Thankfully, the baby was OK but I banged up my lower leg really bad. I think I tripped on the 2nd step and that my leg hit the corner of the bottom step and my foot bent a bit. My ankle doesn't hurt at all, but my leg is bruised right above the ankle all along the front and side and back. The area on the right side of my ankle is also very bruised.

One of the doctors and a nurse at the pediatrician's office took a look at my foot and didn't think it was broken. But now that it's so bruised, I'm a little more concerned. I was on my foot a little too much yesterday, so that probably didn't help, but I'm a little concerned.

I'm trying to avoid going to a doctor if I absolutely don't have to go because I don't have health insurance. I've hurt myself similarly before, but I just don't remember bruising up so much.

I'm trying to follow the RICE steps but it's hard when I have a 2 month old baby.

  • Can credit card companies freeze your account for being one month past due?

My husband has a business credit card and we either forgot to pay the last bill he had with Bank of America or we didn't get the bill at all. The bill was due in the beginning of July. I pay all the bills and I'm usually very particular about paying his accounts. He only had a balance of something like $70 so it wasn't like we couldn't pay it.

However, on July 30th, his card was declined when he had to get his truck fixed. When he called Bank of America, the account was frozen due to the past due amount. We have made payment in full for the balance due (he did make several purchases after the last billing period so it was a lot higher). We do online banking so the payment was already scheduled to be delivered on 7/31.

After talking to Bank of America, they state that most credit card companies have a policy like this and some even freeze it as early as the day after the due date. I'm wondering if this is actually true.

I do agree they have the right to do this. I'm just curious if this is something that is across the board with credit card companies or not.

  • I have a positive HPT and still spotting - should I be concerned?

The "spotting" is really really light brown/tan that has been going on for several days. I am now 14 DPO. I've never managed to have a pregnancy stick, had two early m/c's one in December and another in April. I've called my OBGYN and talked with her yesterday and she had me take progesterone suppositories. But I can't actually get an appointment with her till the 21st (she's trying to get one for me on the 18th).

I'm really trying to stay calm about this, but I'm scared because of my history.

  • Is it possible to change mortgage companies without refinancing?

Our mortgage was sold to a really crappy company. We have thought of refinancing, but then we realized we have a really good rate for another 18 months (we have a 5 year ARM) and won't be able to find anything as low as we have now. It's completely unfair that we don't have a say in who gets our mortgage. I doubt we can have someone else buy it, but it was worth asking the question.

  • How do you file a complaint against a mortgage company?

We had a mortgage through First Horizon and it was sold to Everhome Mortgage effective 6/2/08. They don't even send STATEMENTS, but make you pay using a coupon. They didn't mail the coupons until 6/20/08 (after the June late date) and we didn't get the coupons until 6/24. We started getting collection calls on 6/26. We made the June payment on 7/1 and then on 7/10 we got yet another collection call.

Who do I file a complaint with on this because this is absolutely ridiculous. We never got any collection calls from our previous mortgage companies (we have had 3 before Everhome) and have only been late once in the past by just a few days.

Everhome is based out of Florida. Do I file the complaint with someone in Florida, or can I file it with someone in Maryland (where I am from)?

  • How long can implantation spotting last?

I've had some spotting and I'm currently 11 DPO. I had it yesterday and a little bit today. Can implantation spotting happen over the course of more than one day? It's not a constant thing - it happens, and then stops (like yesterday morning) and then come back light again (yesterday evening). Nothing this morning, but then something this afternoon. I had a dip in my temperatures 3 days ago and it popped back up. But I'm curious if implantation spotting can happen over multiple days instead of just one day. It's light light watered down brown color and is very little. I did an HPT yesterday (but in the afternoon) and got a BFN. If AF doesn't show up in the next 2 days, I'm going to take another test.

  • What was one of the recent security breaches recently reported on the news?

About a month or two ago, there was a big security breach that was reported on the news and the potential for identity theft. I can't remember what company/organization it was. I remember thinking I might have been affected, but didn't follow up. But now I found out someone got my SSN somehow and I wonder if that's how it happened since I shred everything.

  • We conceived, but lost the baby?

My husband and I have been actively TTC for about 6 months now and I ended up getting a fertility monitor to better understand my body. The monitor usually reads ovulation around day 15-17 but last month, it didn't show until Day 27. I thought that was weird. My husband and I had sex and the next day what I thought was my period started. However, I just didn't feel right and did a HPT (actually more than one) and it came out positive. I had bloodwork done the Friday before Christmas. However, in addition to my period (which was very short for me - just 2 days), I had brown discharge. I was a little worried, but the bloodwork results were positive. The dr. told me to do another blood test because the results were low. I got those results yesterday and they dropped so they think I lost the baby. I'm just confused though because it's been almost a month since all this started - is it possible to still have the pregnancy hormone in me this much later?

  • What is the best Spanish-English dictionary?

I need a pocket sized dictionary for my office to help out in those occasions when I don't know a word or two. I have the Oxford dictionary, but I have found it to not be very good. I need something that is aimed more at Latin American Spanish. I looked at several at the bookstore, but wasn't overwhelmingly impressed with any of them.

  • French speakers and Spanish speakers - how do you say window screen?

I really need to know the French word for this - is it maille de fenetre (I know there are accents - I just don't feel like figuring it out)?

In turn, in Spanish, is it malla de la ventana? I speak Spanish, and the online translation sites keep saying pantalla - but that's like a movie screen. I need the word for the window screen - the mesh material.

  • Lightening hair color that came out too dark?

My brother (yes, my brother) went and got his hair dyed because he has a lot of gray at a young age. He left with it still a little wet and now he's noticing it's much darker than he wanted. Is there any way to lighten it without going back to the salon? I told him not to put more hair dye on it because it probably will do more harm than good. Am I right in thinking that cheap shampoo might help in the process? If so, what brand would be best to get?

  • Afraid of being a step-parent?

I have a situation where I've never met my stepson (I've been married to my husband for 13 years almost - his son is almost 17). His son is going to be living with us within a few weeks and I'm scared to death! I don't want the change in my life - but at the same time, I know his mom doesn't want him (he's not a bad kid - his mom gave up on him pretty much when he was 12 while she had kids with other men). How am I going to handle this?

He lives in a foreign country so he wasn't able to visit nor have we been able to go there. He just got his visa and is coming to the US tomorrow and then making his way up here in June.

  • What is a substitute trustee?

There is a house where the owners have never lived there and we have been trying to track them down. In checking with Maryland land records, we have a deed, a deed of trust and an appointment of substitute trustee recorded. Rumor has it that the house is in foreclosure. Does the appointment of substitute trustee indicate that foreclosure is imminent? Would the substitute trustee be the new contact person?
