Speed limiters for motorcycles?

Anyone read the proposed bill the nutters in power want passing?

Quote: transport author Stephen Plowden said he could not see why anyone needed a bike with a top speed of more than 65 mph.

HA HA

LOL

What is the maximum speed limit again????

ERR, 70mph!

Wagons would be burning you off on the motorways!!

It is about time these idiots are kicked out of a job!

agree with you, it's always the bikers that have the legislation against them. Witness proposals to make bikes have headlights on all the time .... whatever happened to other drivers opening their eyes and actually looking out for other vehicles on the road. I ride a bike, and also a car ... when I took car driving lessons my instructors was astounded that I was so knowledgeable about road surfaces, which ones are more skiddable, taking the right line around the bend for maximum visibility .. .all that kind of stuff that you know on a bike. He never taught me anything like that in the car - all the instruction was just about getting your tinbox from A to B without denting it too much. I think bikers are much better road users than car drivers but, unfortunately, as they don't pay as much road tax they'll always be on the flipside of any legislation.

By the way, join the British Motorcyclists Federation if you haven't already.

I agree with most of these answers. Stupid idea. Bikes need the power to get away from dangerous situations. If you want to slow down bikes, the rule should also apply to cars. The government (Labour!!!) site an increase in motorcycle accidents as their basis for this bill. Never mind the fact that this may be due to the fact that since `their` congestion charge there has been an increase in the popularity of motorcycles, most bike "accidents" are caused by car drivers. There is also no distinction between responsible motorcyclists and idiots riding around like maniacs on mopeds or mini motos. Don`t worry too much though... as soon as the powers that be invent a device to limit speed, there`ll be someone in the world who will produce a device to reverse it.

Yes it is a stupid idea and I definitely don't agree with it. However there is no doubt that motorcyclists are their own worst enemy. As a biker of some 30 years, the antics of some frighten me and I can see bikes being clamped down on and it will partially be our own fault.

If you ask most bikers the what would they want to do to their bike 95% will reply "get a race can". It's the same old stupidity. Modern bikes revving to 14,15,16 and 17,000 with a race can on is completely mad. The rider and a few bikers might think it sounds great but not to the public at large. They will view it as completely anti social. Yes present standard exhaust systems are too quiet as you need a bit of noise for road safety but a race can I think not.

I think Stephen Plowden is a fool and showing himself to be a bigot, but he's the type of person you're up against and there's more of them than you think.

    Who is he anyway?

It would not "decrease the potential", it restricts the means, and there are various procedures that's complete. With present day motorcycles, that's a mix of one or extra of eu remap, rev limiter, collar, or different issues. Your motorcycle will sound a lot a similar, and on a GSF600 there should not be a lot of a drop in crimson line, if any, even nevertheless it is going to needless to say improve up extra slowly and characteristic a decrease precise velocity.

It's a stupid idea i agree but then again after the things i saw last summer i think bikers are asking for it now...god knows how many i could have killed during the biking season they seem to think it's ok to overtake into oncoming traffic...what is it with them why do so many think i should swerve to the kerb so they can overtake and break the speed limit....nothing against bikers but there are a number of them that will get this pushed through Parliament with their stupid mentality

Brilliant idea.Lets return to the dark ages.I have an idea lets find out what Powden is into and get it banned, completely. What you now need to work on is reducing your 0 to 65 time! Sub 2 second should be about right. You will only need 1st and 6th gear.

it wont happen its been laughed at by most mp's because they know what it could lead too.

if you feel it needs writing about then lobby your local mp.

i just done a letter to mine regarding this bill for off-road bikes because if that happens you can kiss goodbye to superbikes and moto gp in the uk.

these bikes can not be registered due to the frequent engine and chassis changes they can go through so they would be illegal and get taken away and crushed.

comon uk bikers fight for are racing heritage write to your local mp. this bill could cause job losses in the long term too.

The only speed limiters on a motorcycles should be the rev counters. Easily overcome by changing up a gear. Apparently Stephen Plowden hasn't got his mind into gear.

So the Feds will put restrictions on our bikes. Ten minutes after the owner gets home, the restrictions will be removed and used as an ashtray.

It is bad enough when you have some nut in a car riding on your rear tire in traffic and now they want to legally make us go slower. There will be a lot more bikers getting run over by people in cars. I had not heard this but it does not surprise me.
