If the Bible is the word of god, was god wrong?

This is in reference to the earth is the center of the universe theory that got Gallieo in trouble with the teachings of the church. Today, we all know Gallieo was correct and god was wrong.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle proposed that the heavens were literally composed of 55 concentric, crystalline spheres to which the celestial objects were attached and which rotated at different velocities with the Earth at the center. Not God. Check your facts.

There are a million better examples. There is a story in the Bible where the Sun was stopped from moving across the sky, to give someone enough time to win a battle that God wanted them to win. Somehow that was interpretted to mean that the Sun moves and the earth stands still, and therefore Copernicus had to be wrong. Too much interpretation there for a smoking gun against Bible thumpers.

Rocky - the earth is not a circle, it is a sphere. And the greeks knew that centuries before the Bible was written. And the heavens are not like a tent.

Allow me to explain. You are mistaken in believing that God, persay, said this was the correct theory. In the early days of the church, such as in Rome and before that, people made changes to the Bible from what was actually written by the prophets. The church said that the earth-centered universe was correct, not God. Since then, church leaders have agknowledged that their presessors were incorrect and have come to accept the heliocentric way we see the earth today. Galileo got in trouble because he was going against the church and their ideas, not God and his ideas.

Show me where the bible says that the earth is the center of the universe?

    It does not.

The Bible described the shape of the earth centuries before people thought that the earth was spherical.

    Isaiah 40:22

It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,

And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,

Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,

And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.

The word translated “circle” here is the Hebrew word chuwg which is also translated “circuit,” or “compass” (depending on the context). That is, it indicates something spherical, rounded, or arched—not something that is flat or square.

The book of Isaiah was written sometime between 740 and 680 BC. This is at least 300 years before Aristotle suggested that the earth might be a sphere in this book On the Heavens.

This brings up an important historical note related to this topic. Many people are aware of the conflict between Galileo and the Roman Catholic Pope, Paul V. After publishing A Dialogue on the Two Principal Systems of the World, Galileo was summoned to Rome, where he was forced to renounce his findings. (At that time, “theologians” of the Roman Catholic Church maintained that the Earth was the center of the universe, and to assert otherwise was deemed heretical.)

We could not find any place in the Bible that claims that the Earth is flat, or that it is the center of the universe. History shows that this conflict, which took place at the time of the Inquisition, was part of a power struggle. As a result, scientific and biblical knowledge became casualties—an effect we still feel to this day.

Leprosy is led to via microorganisms, no longer a being's wrath or malice. Num 12:10 Bats are not birds. Deut 14:11 There are not any 4 legged bugs. Lev 11:23 we've long previous into area; have not got here across the pillars of the planet. 1Sam 2:8

I don't personally follow religion, but we know the Earth revolves around the sun not the other way around. So I suppose if there is a God he could have been speaking metaphorically as in Earth is the only Planet with life so it is one of the most important. =/ It's a hard question to answer. But it might just be a metaphor.

I'm not exactly sure that the Bible ever states that Earth is the center of the universe. Even if it did, I doubt it meant in a cosmic sense.

Don't blame God for His followers' inability to "test everything"

Saying God is wrong is like saying, "President Bush is Bill Gates' equal!" Anyone in their right mind knows that there is no way that a bubble is a square and three pennies could land you a week in the Bahamas - tomorrow! Only a lack of common sense, or willingness to believe in the 'Grand Creator' would hinder a persons understanding. I should know! I got kicked out of heaven!

The Bible never makes claims that it is perfect. God is never wrong, humans are. Galileo's wrong treatment was the fault of the people who read into the Bible the way that world is flat ans stuff like that. The Bible never made claims that the world is flat.

God is always right, people make mistakes. : )

where in the bible does it say earth is the center? Please quote book, chapter and verse?

The views of the CHURCH at the time (and currently) are not necessarily based in biblical verse OR scientific fact.

Hell, the Vatican, TO THIS DAY, classifies the Capyberra as a fish (it's a giant guinea pig). And that ain't in the bible either.
