Why do so many post responses that flat out don't answer the question?

What IS IT with this lately? Am I the only one noticing this? Are they entitled to 2 points? Should I report them?

You shouldnt report them, because theres so much of it going on.

They just want points and though it is lame, theres WAY too many to stop, like you said.

    Its pathetic.

They do it for the points only. They have no answer for you but want points or they are not interested in answering questions and only want to get high on the leaderboard quickly.

This is called point gaming and yes you should report it. The Community Guidelines requires all answers to directly address the question. Any answer not addressing the question is "Not an Answer" and should be reported as such.

Everyone gets 2 points for answering a question. It doesn't matter what their answer is. If the answers have nothing to do with the question you can report them, why are you going to report them if they didn't answer the question correctly?

They just honestly want to get points and will do it in whatever way they can. I admit to browsing through categories so I can answer and get points (not neccessarily because I like answering questions), but I at least want to know what I'm talking about before answering, instead of giving half-assed lame ones. The system isn't exactly fool-proof, my friend. And of course, there are some idiots out there, yes?

Ahh I don't know!!! i dont get it either! i guess i just dont get the whole 'point' thing... i'd much rather spend the time finding questions where i think i might actually be able to help someone out than sit around all day obsessively trying to get stupid points,, and for what?! i thought the purpose of this site was to help people!

oh well..i just dont get some people....i wouldnt go as far as reporting them though, although i'd like to sometimes!

Too many people are responding to questions and not enough people are asking so the likelyhood of getting 10 points is so low. Its easier to put up a smartbutt remark and get the 2 points.

Perhaps they think they are reading between the lines rather than addressing the posted question instead which then makes it seem off the wall answer....who knows on some.

What I hate though is to answer point by point in the question as asked then the one who asked it attack you for answering your opinion on it. If they didn't want your thoughts why did they ask it to begin with????

Just look for what you want. If you don't like an answer then look at the next one. There is no guarantee that there will be lots of good answers or even a right answer. Hopefully people are doing the best they can.

  • It's all about points. I asked a serious car repair question that you really can't answer snidely, and nothing. Same with a legitimate adoption question earlier this week.

And occasionally, when I see "does he/she like me?" for the 9,000 time, I tend to be kind of sarcastic.

    They should look into that.

It is because people just want points for answering a question. And there is always a possibilty that they will get picked for best answer.
