When typing someones thought within a story, do you italicize it?

Sit up, was she kidding. She'd fall off for sure, Anna thought to herself.

I consulted my editor ... here is her brief thought ...

No, italics will drive the reader buggy.

You can set it off with quotes:

"Sit up," was she kidding? "She'd fall off for sure," Anna thought to herself.

Some authors don't use anything. They write it just as you have. However, if you choose not to use quotes, you'll need help on sentence structure.

Alot of people do it though, but you don't have too.

But you do have to add these when you use a thought in a story.

' Sit up, was she kidding? She'd fall off for sure, ' Anna thought to herself.

See, that's how you write it. Hope it helped, you had some mistakes in that sentence.
