    A double negative is one which states the opposite of what it intends because it uses two negatives that flip flop a certain stance on a situation around.

    What you have is a short answer to a question and an explanation of the answer. So no, it is not an inappropriate double negative. In fact, it isn't even a double negative.

    That's not actually a double negative. It's perfectly correct. It would only be a double negative if you said, "not neither" which would be totally incorrect. Your sentence is perfectly fine.

    It sounds a little odd. I don't think it's inappropriate but "No. It wasn't either of these" might be a little less odd sounding.
