The more you think about it the less you'll sleep, I've had the same thing.

Try avoiding all the usual culprits, caffeine etc (plus drugs - pills coke and speed)

Cheese is known to cause sleep issues, weird dreams etc.

You have to be physically tired to sleep, so make sure you're active in the day.

I'm not encouraging you to drink but a couple of glasses of red wine an hour before bed will knock you out for the night. If you get used to sleeping when you go to bed then when you go to bed without wine you should just click off in the same way.

One last thing, something my mother swears by, keep your bedroom for sleeping - no TVs etc. Watching TV before trying to sleep is often detrimental to your sleeping attempts.

    Good luck!

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

    1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

    2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net/

    Ohhh..and Good Luck!

    Some herbal remedies include:

Camomile tea, Rooibos tea, passiflora (usually sold as tablets) and lemon balm tea or capsules,.

Calcium/magnesium combined (especially if there is stress - magnesium is the anti-stress mineral) is opften helpful.

Where there is stress and/or nervous tension or muscular stress/tension:-

Calcium and magnesium both relax the nerves/muscles.

B Complex (if there is stress - this is the anti-stress vitamin) is often beneficial too.

Try reading a relaxing book before you sleep - nothing too taxing for the brain.

As someone else has mentioned - you need to avoid caffeine at all costs if you are having difficulty sleeping.

    Try not to worry!

    Hope this helps.

    Try the following:

    1. Get up at the same time each morning, early if possible

    2. Go to bed at the same time each evening

    3. Take exercise during the day so you are physically tired by evening

    4. Try chamomile tea before bed; helps to relax you.

Try melatonin first. It is natural and you can find it at The Vitamin Shoppe. 5 mg. should knock you out. Take the ones that you put under your tongue. (sublingual) They go directly into your blood stream.

If that does not work, a prescription that works is Trazadone, but it gives you sugar cravings about 20 minutes after you take it.

Chamomile tea, counting backwards from 100, an eye mask (to block out all light), ................listening to soothing music or sounds.........if all else fails just take some Tylenol PM or NyQuil for a while. If that fails call your doc, maybe he can prescribe something.

I often have this same problem. think about the details of a goal or fantasy to block you from any negative thoughts. i guarantee that you will become relaxed and go to sleep before you realize what hit you.

    Glass of warm milk. Benadryll.

The glass of warm milk is the natural way, it has a neurotransmitter (similar to the one in turkey) that will make you sleepy.

If you're really wanting to go to sleep, take Benadryll, it should knock you out.

I suffer the same fate. What works everytime for me is a few laps in the pool. I'd say swim for about 1/2 hour.
