Does the Sentricon Termite bait system work, and how much does it cost?
My house is free of termites, as it's been treated before, but my yard is one giant colony. These things are eating everything from trees to grass roots! Can anyone suggest any effective yard treatments?

My area of michigan is very popular with termites, so I payed $l,200 for the Sentricon system. The colony was eradicated within a year. Since that time I have payed approx. $200 a year for continuing inspections and, if necessary, treatment. Also I am insured against future damages as part of the protection plan.
There are some termite bait stations that can be purchased at places such as Home Depot, Lowes, and Menard's. I don't know how effective they are - but they are available. I seem to remember that one of the brands was Spectracide.
Good luck.

No, don't go for the Sentricon or any other form of bait system. Termites have a very odd and unpredictable pattern of foraging, besides nothing has been proven effective in "attracting" termites. Your best bet is using Premise granules on an annual basis for what you have described. The granules are the same as the liquid for of premise, which is a PROVEN non-repellant termiticide. Basically, the termites forage through the soil treated with the granules, they dont detect it, and they DIE. I have been in the industry for 30 years and this is one of the best concepts for protection. I am using it for all of my 3000 annual renewal accounts and I feel good using it knowing that I am actually providing a service that is working for my customers. My suggestion is that you call professionals and get quotes for a treatment with the granules. We offer it to our customers for $125 a year and provide a guarantee that if the house becomes infested with termites, then we will also provide any necessary liquid treatments. You might be able to get it cheaper to just ask for that treatment each year without the guarantee and at least you will know what you are getting. Good luck with it!
