Property taxes must be paid before you can register car. What do you do if you are a renter?

I noticed that some states, I saw the Delaware site, that your property taxes must be paid for the year, or you will not be allowed to renew your tabs on your car? What do renters do, and what does property taxes have to do with vehicle titles/registration? What if you lease a condo, but live in Maryland, do the Maryland taxes have to be paid?

The property tax to which they refer is Personal property tax, not real estate tax. They're asking for proof that you paid the tax on your car - not the sales tax you pay upon purchasing the vehicle, but a tax lobbied by your Dept. of revenue.

If you've recently moved to the state, it's likely you'll need to visit your local city hall to pay the tax your first year. After your first year, you receive tax notices every year, usually late in the fall with an end of the year payment deadline.

For more information you can look at your state's website, follow a link to motor vehicle licensing or to your Department of Revenue.

That is for Taxpayers that are behind in their property taxes . If you arent on the Tax rolls (a homeowner ) then this does not apply to you
