Gophers and grub worms?

You can get insecticides that are made to work in the soil at most any hardware store. I don't know the names of any products anymore, but pretty much any insecticide in a bag that is in pelletized form will do the trick. Just remember that liquid insectides will not work, only pelletized ones, and follow the directions. Doing it yourself will save you tons of cash versus calling an exterminator. Getting Rid Of Grub Worms

I agree with the other poster- get the metal gopher traps. A tip- spray the traps with clear finish- I noticed my metal traps did not trip as well when they became dull. Practice setting the Victor traps (available at any hardware store- but I found other brands of green coated traps didn't work as well). Use your boot. Keep little kids and pets out of the way. It's a bit tricky at first but they do come with directions. They are hair trigger sensitive-be careful handling them once they are set. Look for fresh mounds- where the action is. Open up the mound and dig until you open up the tunnel. Gophers seek to cover up the mounds again, so leaving things open is your lure. Set the trap and carefully set it jaws-end first into the mound. I've gotten the best results by making sure the trap was setting on a flat section of the tunnel- it may be a foot further back in the hole, but it works better. Tie a string to the end of the trap. If you catch a gopher, the jaws are supposed to stab them quickly but they may merely squeeze and hold a live gopher and they have teeth and they do bite. Check the traps frequently- we were having a terrible time with gophers destroying plants and driplines in the yard but I am not heartless either- I didn't want to see them suffer so once they were caught, I'd use a crowbar to pull the trap out of the tunnel and then dispatch the gopher with a quick whack. I'd tried every other possible remedy on the market- bait, gas, noise- and like you, didn't want to spend a fortune on exterminators. The traps set you back about $8.00 apiece but they can be hosed off and reused. Again, it's awful having to open up mounds and make a bigger mess of the lawn but in the long run, the traps work. I asked this last fall, but I have a mole problem as I live in Ks. Moles feed on the grubs in my yard. The most common answer was to purchase a product called GrubX from a Hardware or lawn care retailer. It needs to be spread all over the yard with a lawn spreader. It kills the moles & gophers so they no longer come into your yard & burrow up the yard.

Gophers locate food in various ways. They will either feed on roots they run into while they dig or pull above-ground plants into their tunnel from below. A professional gardener I know says he keeps a good "critter dog". That's a dog that digs them up. He has a farm, not a yard, so the holes don't matter as much. LOL Good luck.

One way to get rid of the gopher is to uncover the hole in the mound. Drop in a piece of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum still in the foil wrapper. They try to eat it and choke on the foil.

I live in Tx too and them dam gophers just lay waste to my garden every year ive tried everything to keep them out i finnally got some gopher traps it slowed them down go to your locale feed store and inguire i really thought i would hate killing them but actually it didnt hurt a bit
