This is easier than you think...
If your laptop hard drive has two sets on flat pins in a row, that takes two connectors, it is a SATA type, and can directly connect with appropriate SATA connectors inside the PC, although you should take note that dated dell computers do not have SATA, so you may need to obtain appropriate hardware to adapt it.
Although, if the laptop is dated, you can simply connect an adapter and expect it to work, although you may need to configure the drive to do so (this is usually documented on the hard drive, but the manufacturer's web site can explain how-to very easily change the drives mode).
That is an example of what you'd need:

Alternatively, you can get a laptop hard-drive enclosure, which would connect VIA usb (therefore making it portable), however these aren't the cheapest solution.
I hope this helps

yes you would need a special adapter for it though look for a 2.5" to 3.5" sata adapter, or what i think your best option is, look for a drive enclosure for your drive so you could use it as a portable hardrive. Also as for the power connector try repairing it your self I did mine last week, was scared at first but all is done and laptop is charging again.

They are totally different, but there are 2 alternatives. You can buy adaptors for PC IDE connectors to laptop IDE, or there are external USB drive boxes with this facility. Try your nearest good computer shop, you need to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about.

the best advice for you is don't try to do it yourself if you haven't the knowledge to do it yourself you risk cooking another computer as well as damaging the hdd or wiping it get a friend to do it who's computer savvy or take it to a shop

Normally you would need a hard disk caddy that fits into your multibay (where your CD drive slots into).
