Short answer....no, it is not NASCAR on road courses. Although Grand-Am was started in part by Jim France, one of ISC(International Speedway Corporation)'s top officials(and who is related to some of NASCAR's top officials, notably former president Bill France, Jr. and current president Brian France), it is a separate organization that was created during a somewhat turbulent period in American sports-car racing back in the late 1990's. Although it could be described as "spec sportscar racing"(i.e. there are restrictions on the engines/chassis' that can be used, etc.), the racing is very much close-quarters, go-for-broke racing on road courses such as Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen and Laguna Seca, as well as on "stadium road courses" such as the 3.5+ mile "roval" at Daytona Intl. Speedway(home of the Rolex 24 at Daytona) and Homestead-Miami Speedway. It's a great series to watch and enjoy, especially with the down-to-the-wire championship fights they've had the past couple of seasons, and with all the different manufacturers involved(Ford, Chevy, BMW, Lexus, Mazda, Porsche, Pontiac, etc), plus there are two distinct classes of sportscars on-track, the Daytona Prototypes(DP) and Grand Touring(GT) racecars.
