I have a riding lawn mower, is it bad to use that Fuel system cleaner you can put in the gas tank?
My Tractor is a John Deere and I'm talking about the engine cleaner you would put in a car gas tank. You know to clean Valves and such. Can I add the same stuff to my tractor? Just wondered.

Would go to the John Deere website and see what they recommend. I tried an internal engine cleaner in two lawnmower engines and both locked up on me. They were both smoking bad so thought that might help them. Could have been coincidence but have not done it since.

I usually stick with MMO (marvel mystery oil) as a gas additive other than a fuel stabilizer of course... never anything else and it keeps things clean...
I use seafoam if I ever get water in the gas... but thats not a problem as I do proper maintenance and fill the tank, keep it stored in a dry place and cover the gas caps..

As long as the lawnmower takes regular unleaded gas and not a mixture it would be fine. If it reqwuires an oil/gas mixture, like a 2 stroke, be sure that the fuel system cleaner is designed for it.

I do it and I have not had any problems. I do it in the spring or fall to aid in getting the moisture out of the tank too. Adding some two cycle oil to the gas will not hurt either, buy the good oil like Stihl sells.

Just be sure that it is for your type of engine 2 or 4 stroke and mix the cleaner to proper fuel/cleaner mix ratio

I too have a John Deere, and have been using STP Gas treatment in my Machine since it was new (17yrs old). Just need a capfull twice a year and everything works smoother. J.D. say's it is fine to do it that way.

I would'nt. Small engines have many components that are far different than those found in an automobile.
Many of these components will break down if exposed to the harsh chemicals in these additives.
There are products specifically designed for small engines available at most hardware stores & home improvement centers.
Hope this helps you out, good luck!
