how do i get some political awareness?

my bf of six years has always been big on politics but to be truthful it bores me to death. im at a point where i should be and want to be more aware of the current state of the world but i don't know how to ease into it without either totally overwhelming myself or becoming irritated and falling asleep. any suggestions???

Try looking quickly at the news stories on Yahoo, including those under News below the headlines, and then go to Al Jazeera http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/55ABE840-AC...

and do the same. Do this for a few minutes every day and you will begin to get a picture of what is going on. Then, when your interest is piqued, you will start to follow more and more links to stories that interest you.

This is the wrong place unless you want the hatred part...Ex:Phrase two questions and in one of each say something negative, but true, about the two major parties...bash the repubs in one and the dems in the other and see what kinda vitrol comes spewing out...you need to just watch a couple of different cable news shows or something...its pretty much the same but not as thick

Don't get it from this site... I suggest doing a google search for Conservative web sites and Liberal web sites. Pick one or two from each category that you like to read and doesn't bore you to tears and isn't hateful in its commentary or remarks (check the editorials of each site to truly discover their slants). Don't rely on the network news, as their slants are biased toward the left of the spectrum (and the anchors have openly admitted their political persuasions). Cable news you could choose from CNN and Fox (liberal vs right of center, respectively). A good talk radio show is Michael Medved. He is an admitted and unapologetic Republican, however he routinely invites guests onto his show that are wide left on the meter. Good luck and congratulations on your quest to become more informed.

I'd suggest you pick 1 or 2 sources and follow them. For example (and if you pick just one, this is my recommendation) you could make a habit of watching the PBS news broadcast McNeil-Leherer in the evening. But there are many sources. If you have the time and inclination to do a bit more, try to pick a source (on the web, printed, TV, whatever) thats on the conservative side and one that's on the liberal (e.g. FOX and ABC news) so you get both sides' take on things.

To start with, do not get your primary political knowledge from this place. Especially from the guy who looks like Bush and has a beard. Half the time we make things up. The news is not much better. I rarely get my news now from American sources. If you have to get it from American TV, night line is or use to be good. I like the business oriented news. What ever you do, don't go to fox news.

I get mine from the BBC. I use to stream news from BBC.COm, but they banned streaming audio at my work place. If your working on or around the computer, try it.

I use to read the LA times, but It went down hill since the Tribune bought it up. If you look who is trying to by the Chicago Tribune and the LA times, you would know why News in America ,sucks. People with big Ego's and a political agenda buy up all the news outlet to spout off their political agenda. Unfortunately it works.

Watch your *** burn, when something you did not watch, comes after you, with one or more agenda in mind.Either from your wallet or from your Rights.

Slow immersion is for frogs & cats. Quick immersion is for lobster. If watching your Rights disappear, puts you to sleep, after the irritation index, I must pity you.

Start with arming yourself, than walk down a street in NH, with open carry.

Next is to go to your Town/City clerk, for an application for Licensed Concealed Carry ( $10 + name of 3 individuals who might speak kindly of you { you can include me: Howard L.Wilson, POBox 91, Andover, NH 03216 603-735-5427 stoneanarch@tds.net , as a referent}). Gun Show in Concord,Saturday & Sunday, at the Everett Arena,Loudon Road, off Exit 14, I-93.

Subscribe to a newspaper or a news web site, for more burn info. Free newspapers can be had from your town Dump, recycling effort.

Then find other single-minded groups, that can show you how they are being burned. Or keep contact with me, and I will see to full immersion, and burnout from you.

GOTO: www.state.nh.us ( then legislature, to House or Senate, calendar, for legislation schedule) or to LSR submission, House or Senate for bills text.

Censorship is no part of my agenda, nor should it be part of yours, as a member of the Libertarian Party & ACLU ( see 3 stars at top of my answer).

History is anything but boring, it takes time to cultivate this knowledge.

But do it for yourself and not for the boyfreind, you will see things in a different light.

I would suggest first study history and then study world events, you will then see patterns. Then politics are just filling in the blanks.

My opinions is American politics just show how rude we are as a people

Watch the news, read the papers, and join a party. Parliamentary Question time is good too, coz they bicker and fight, and call each other names. It's the funniest thing I have ever seen. It only goes for an hour, so if your bored you can tune out, and 10 minutes later they are still bitching about the same thing.

start by volunteering at your local mp or mpp's office.... you never know what interests you.. instead of seeing it as a whole you will see that politics comes down to solving one problem at a time.

Republicans are expected to actually know things. Democrats only have to know that whatever republicans say is wrong.
