Carpet Question?
I have to enlarge a raised hearth into a living room. It is already a 12" wide x 57" rectangle, 8" high, into the room with the carpet stretched to tack strip to the old design. I have to make it 10" wider into the room to meet code for the fireplace. How should I cut the carpet so that it can be stretched to the new design? My instinct is to draw out the new design, plus the tile dimension, onto the carpet and razor cut along that pattern. Is this correct, or does anyone have a better suggestion? Thank you.
1 AnswerDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoFixing a metal office front door?
This is a metal framed glass swinging door with some miles. It has an adjustment screw which I cannot figure out. Right now the door does not want to close centered on the jam, but instead wants to finish 6 inches off center. Does anyone know how to adjust this kind of door?
I cannot identify a brand name on the door anywhere.

Does this quote from James Madison ring true today or is it an old truth from our Revolution?
"Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes...known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. . . No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."

How do you hang picture molding on aging plaster walls?
I need to install picture molding on old plaster walls, but am not confident once the job is done and the first heavy picture is hung the whole system won't come crashing down. How do you know if you use a finish nailer and 2" nails that you have hit anything strong enough to hold up pictures, or do or can you use the trusty stud finder technique. Helpful hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
