Why is it that some people feel abortion is a better decision than adoption?

I understand that there are those that want to be able to make that decision and it's "your" body. When you decide to be irresponsible and conceive "your" body no longer belongs to just you so how can you make the decision on whether that child lives or dies? Last time I checked, there was a higher power that makes that decision. I'm not being mean, just honest.

Update:

Wow, I recieved a lot of different responses and I am glad everyone took the time to share their thoughts on this. I realise that there are some that don't believe in a higher power but I do and since I am the one that asked the question, I felt that I should express my views HONESTLY and so I did. Thanks for sharing.

This question is like mixing apples with oranges. you are going to get so many different possibilities. you have those that believe that it depends on the situation and the person if rather or not an abortion is appropriate. and then you have those like myself who believe in the Almighty God, and know that abortions are wrong. And that God will not put more on you than you could bear. I think if you could not deal with a child mentally or financially adoption is this best way.

I've never heard that view point before about a higher power But I like it. I have always believed in a womans own body and that she has the final decission on her body. I even thought that when my husband and I were first together 10 years ago, that if I got pregnant I woud abort. We are ten years down the track and have a beautiful daughter. My thought process is different, We've spoken about whether we would abort if a child was severly disabled, I don't know that I could. I suppose that would feel like the ultimate in favourtism. But I am not in that situation. It's such an in depth topic, lots of answers. And every person has a reason for their own decisions

Higher power or not, most of the time when abortion is considered the "only" option for some, it is due to possibly feeling scared and not supported. Most abortions are due to women who are not responsible enough to protect themselves when it comes to sex, and most of them, are more than likely "young women", unfortunately. Some abortions however, are medically necessary as well. In any case, even though I am a Waiting Parent for adoption, I still support pro choice. I believe it is a woman's right to live her life, and make her own decisions, no disrespect to your higher power.....

Some people have to have abortions because the mother's life is in danger. Other then that (or possibly some rape cases) I think the mother should have the child and put it up for adoption if she doesn't want it. There are so many couples out there who would love to have a baby who are not able to.

Not all people believe in a "higher power" and I'm unsure how you "checked" on that. Anyhow, I hear what your saying but there are times that people have accidents. Like condoms being used wrong or leaking. Also, I am that 1% who got pregnant on the pill. Not once but twice. I was married and gave birth to both babies but I wasn't planning for them. I could completely understand why a person who tried to do the right thing and it didn't work for them would chose to abort.

Check again. Prove there's a 'higher power ". The decision to have an abortion or not is not easy...but it's not one for anyone else but the woman's to make....

Of course the moral thing to do is have the child and give it up for adoption, but people have abortions for several reasons. They...

-Don't want anyone to know they were ever pregnant. They might be ashamed if people knew they messed up.

-Don't want to go through the pain of pregnancy and childbirth.

-Don't want to get attached to the child after carrying it for 9 months.

i dont believe in a higher power....so your version of 'honest' is ridiculous to me...and as for irresponsible...condoms break, birth control fails....i was a mother of two when i decided to abort the baby i was such an irresponsible slut to get knocked up with....the whole arguement is that it IS MY BODY and its not my responsibility to populate the world...try explaining adoption to older siblings.....

according to this reasoning every healthy person with two kidneys should sign up to have one removed in case someone else should need it...

Since you mention a higher power, you should leave the judging up to whoever that may be.

because it is the better decision for those people. You have no idea what it's like to stand in their shoes, even if you've been in a similar situation. You don't get to decide people's lives for them.
