    Nope.

    512 + 512 = 1024 - referred to as "1 gig"

The short answer is no. However there are other things to consider... how many slots does your computer have ? A slot is where you will install each stick of memory. My computer has 4 slots ... basically thats a finite amount... so plan ...

Find out how much memory your motherboard can accomodate. If you ever plan on taking the memory amount to the limit.. each slot will need its maximum ... for example my compter can use 4Gig of memory max. I would need a 1 Gig stick in each slot. If any sticks are less than that I have to remove and not use them. Some motherboards work best when they have memory sticks is tandem... meaning 2 of the same type.

You can run a utility called "Belarc" (search on it) which will give you a report on your computer .. it shows you information that becomes invaluable when considering an upgrade. It's free. It will tell you how many slots you have and what you have in them. Then a trip to Crucial will tell you the max your particualr motherboard can hold and what type. That will give you the information you need to make a smart decision. You don't have to purchase the memory at Crucial... however they are reliable and their recommendations will always work. Good Luck!

nope....in reality the 1 gb memory stick has 1024 mb of memory.

which is the same as 512+512

it works by the binary logic which is to multiply the bit by 2.

    so starting from 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 etc....

this is a very breif answer to your question but basicly in terms of memory. they all work by this principle

If you're talking about things like USB keys or MP3 players, the 2 512s would actually have less space. Things of that nature need a bit of space for the operating system, so a 512 stick has only maybe 500 actual usable mbs. Just for example, two 512s would have 1000, whereas the 1 gig would only need one OS, so it would have 1012 megs.

But if it's like RAM, the two options are exactly the same.

    512 X 2 = 1024, called 1gb for short.

Well lets see 512 multiplies by 2 is 1024 and 1 GB is 1000 so it is a little higher. Make sure though that you motherboard has two slots for two memory cards. I personally would just get 1 1GB memory card.

a 1 gig stick actually has 1024, so no. But a 1 gig stick offers more upgradeability since it is only 1 dimm.

Nope there the same. I thought if that i just Payed For the largest one i needed and called it quits

  • 512mb + 512mb = 1024mb

    1 gb = 1024mb

    1024mb = 1024mb

Thery are eqaul and it is easier to carry one drive than two.

they donot but it will be faster to install it on 2 512 chips. however consider the price and number of slots on your mainboard.
