How about swimming or water aerobics as the water will support some of your body weight and not put so much pressure on your back.

Your walking is a good start, you should also try to drink some more water.
As for different execise, you have a bad back you should be very cautious. I snapped my tail bone over a year ago and still find some exercise difficult. Like the others have said, swimming is a good alternative as it will support your body, what about water areobics? Does it hurt your back to ride a bike? That can give you a good work and it will work the larger leg muscles which will in turn burn more calories, and your legs will look lovely and toned!
It depends on the type of pain you experiance, what ever you try, just listen to your body, it will tell you if you are doing right. Good luck!

Along with everyone else, I think swimming is a good form of exercise without adding any strain on your back - you could go to your local fitness centre and sign up - you will get a fitness assessment and advice, along with a comprehensive exercise program designed for you personally. This will take in to account your back (and any other) problems but allow you develop your core strength safely and effectively. This will gradually increase your ability to increase your exercise and of course your weight loss.

I have found that an eliptical machine really helps. It is low impact, but high results. I feel it helps more than just walking. It is a smooth machine and if you have back problems, as I do, or any other pain issues, it is really a smooth "ride". Might be worth a shot. I know I feel it working in my legs shortly after starting it.

my advice is simple go down to a local gym, their are trained staff that are their to help they might be able to give some advice as to what you can use from a stepper to a gym ball but if your still not sure see a doctor and they can better advise you probably put you on some stronger medication to take away the pain whilst training but that is something that you will have find out good luck.

Don't take something like this on your own, it could be very unforgiving. Contact a physical therapist, they are trained entensly in this field to prevent you from injury. The phone book is full of them and the charge is alot less than injury.

Try pilates, get a few one to one sessions with an instructor if you can manage it then join a class. I had terrible back pain due to my stomach muscles and core strength being wrecked after I had twins and it did a lot for me.
Or you could try to get a physiotherapist refferal, they might give you specific exercises for you....good luck!

Swimming definitely. It takes all your weight so your back will not be compromised at all. Half an hour at a time is all you'll need to do.
