How would you explain to a nine year old child, male or female what adultery means?

i have an 11 yr old and i explained it like this: he promised God to only love and be affectionate with me and he broke that promise because he decided to love and be affectionate with somebody else. (Be a simple and straight to the point as possible.)

You've probably talked to your nine year old about keeping promises and standing by comittments already, and that nine year old probably knows about how bad it feels when someone breaks a promise. I would talk about how when people love each other very much, they make a promise to share a special kind of love only with each other, and that sometimes, a man or a woman breaks that promise and shares that special love with sometime else, and that that's not right, and it hurts people very badly-the man or woman who was cheated on and the person's family.

When a man and a woman get married they do it before friends ,family ,and most of all GOD and when they do this they promise to LOVE ,HONOR ,and CHERISH eachother so when a Mommy or a Daddy makes the choice to break this rule and be with someone else the way they should be with eachother thats breaking the Rules and in the eyes of GOD and Laws of society thats called ADULTERY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!and thats just not right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would tell her that when a man and a women get married they promis not to go on dates with anyone else. If they break this promis then it is called adultery.

It depends on how they ask or why they are asking.

Just tell them the truth. It's when a man and a woman are married and when the man/woman goes and has a relationship with another man/woman that they are not married to.

it all depends on the maturity of the child. my son is almost 9, his dad and i have divorced because he cheated on me. I have not given my son all the details as it still upsets him that his dad has left. the way i figure it, he has plenty of time to find out the real truth why his dad left

making babies with people who you aren't married to. tho i think 9 is old enuff 4 the whole truth. but if not, say that in married couples, husbands can help wives put babies in their tummies, but it's not ok to try to make babies with someone you aren't married to.
