Melbourne in May...?

What is the weather like? I don't want to go when it's super hot or very rainy. Are there a lot of tourists during that time? I also don't want to go if there's too many major events going on during then...

Thanks so much

Melbourne has an Australia-wide reputation for being permanently rainy. It's not an entirely deserved reputation, because it can be sunny at times. This has given rise to the local sayings, "Melbourne, where you can experience all four seasons in one day" and "If you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes" because in Melbourne, the weather is very temperamental, and can range from bright and sunny to overcast, to drizzly to a complete downpour and back to sunny in a matter of hours. But Melbourne, as a general rule of thumb, will be cold in May.

It will definitely not be "super hot" in Melbourne in May. The long term averages say that it should rain during May, but we are in a drought down here at the moment, so there is no guarantee that rain will come this May either.

Often in late May or early June we get periods of cold clear days, so you *might* be able to spend a week in Melbourne in May and not see any rain at all, but it would be more likely that you could spend a week here and not see the sun.

It's not super rainy, but there might be some rain.

The average maximum temperature is 17 degrees (63 Fahrenheit).

Also, most of the tourists are coming on January so there won't be much tourists.

    Hi,

Melbourne in May, That's wintertime down-under. Cold, wet and rainy. If you are looking for a warm place in Australia Queensland and Cairns(Cans). Any place around Carins will be warm. Not sure about rain but you'll have warmth.

May is usually getting into the cooler months and although its usually a wet month, its very dry here at the moment! The only event that is really on in May is the AFL football which is on the weekends.

Almost middle of winter, cold windy and raining, take an umbrella and button up your overcoat.
