What would make you call us for work at your house?

I recently started a web site for our concrete business and I was wondering what kind of things I could add the the page that would motivate people to call once they visit the site. We have been in business for over 30 years and I think that is compelling enough but people are visiting the site but not at least calling. We have always just done business by word of mouth. Since most on this site seem to be younger I'm hoping you could give me some fresh Ideas. If you are in the bay area or in Bakersfield,CA and I use your suggestion we can talk about a discount. Thank for any help.

If you want to visit the site it is http://www.palmisanoconcrete.com/ its pretty plain right now because the server for the page keeps giving me grief and I'm having a hard time adding and changing it.

Shar is right about one thing...the first thing that I noticed was the grammar and spelling issues with your page. Have someone seriously proof read the page. Your information is really good but it needs to be presented a little more eloquently. Don't pay attention to the advice of offering discounts. Do-it yourself people will end up hiring you in the long run because their DIY projects will fall apart and they will need you to put them back together. If you honestly do quality work, offer a fair price and do the job properly and you will always have work.

That's a pretty decent website. I would guess you're not getting any calls though becuase the type of people who hire you aren't seeing your web page.

For example, I would hire someone for a few small jobs I have around the house but your webpage says with its pictures that you are looking for big jobs where heavy construction and concrete is needed.

Who ever is your target audience, you have to find out where they are looking and what they want to see. For residential work I would use pictures of recently done patios with retaining walls, kitchen countertops made of concrete, and resurfaced steps and walkways.

    Good luck

My biggest concern after the usual questions is how a company treats their employees. I always ask about who is doing the job, how long they have been working for the company and how you run crews.

To me, I would and have paid more because the crew has been working for the owner consistently and for years.

If it is seasonal work I always ask how they keep the crew throughout the off season.

So..on your website, show a little "bio" of your actual workers.

Say that Joe has worked for us for 7 years and will be pouring the concrete, or John has been with since 1992 and drives our trucks etc...

The bottom line is that the work is being done by people who work for you and not by the salesmen...

all good suggestions, especially show some of the finished products you have created.

i would go with the idea that, sure, some home improvements can be done well by the owner, but something as important as say a concrete basement, the foundation of your home, should be done by skilled professionals as yourself.

free estimates is good as the other responder suggested.

i would also play up on the fact that your business has always been by word of mouth, for over 30 years, so, your work must be excellant, and you must be dependable, honest, or you would not have been successful for so long

    good luck

It looks good, but you might try changing the format to a wider one, I have a lot of empty space on my screen when I look at it. There are also some typos and grammar mistakes, but those are easy to fix...

There are a lot of colors in the one spot, it is kind of distracting...

I like the caution tape around the photos, but the under construction tape at the top of the page looks like you are telling the customer "The website is under construction, don't look too hard"

Maybe add some pictures of the crew working, somebody using a float or screed, (or a power float...they're hot!) dirty and smiling, happy people get customers. If you know that your guy is happy with his job and enjoys what he does it gives you a warm feeling.

Do you do stamping or other decorative work? If you do it might be a good idea to find (or take) some shots of that and get them in for the summer season, people are starting to do their gardens, ponds, retaining walls, patios and summer projects. This time of the year is great to get their attention.

Also, if you take pictures of other people's cheap bad work (you don't have to say who they are) and then pictures of the ripping out, torn up lawn, ruined flowerbeds, then what it looks like after you rip it up and fix it with a caption "Don't let this happen to you"

Good luck, and I hope that I have helped! : )

Uneven and cracked sidewalk or driveway at that new house I just purchased or the house I had lived in my whole life. I am not sure if you repair basement problems where I might have a leak because the house had settled and cracked the foundation. How about installing that basketball pole and backboard without screwing up driveway. Let's say I decided to put a sidewalk in to my new patio and whirlpool. Just a few ideals off the tip of my head. I give it more thought as to advertising business.

As a homeowner I think your website looks like its more for industrial type concrete projects or really large projects. It also looks and sounds REALLY expensive. Maybe if you had a picture of a house with the before and after photos to show the great quality of your work and to show that you "get what you pay for..."

Offer a discount...most places are just so expensive people are now learning to just do it themselves. I watch HGTV and do all the home improvments to my house while my husband is at work...he is so amazed! Labor seems to be a waste when you can learn so quickly online or taking a class at Lowes.

Ask some of your customers if you can list their project names ion your website and in any ads. If you have made them happy, some of them should be willing.
