Yes I have written an essay. Each essay has a specific purpose whether it is to outline, discuss, explain, argue, compare, contrast, describe, or analyse. Essays are based on evidence so you will need to use evidence to support your point of view. A basic essay structure is below:
Introduction: Usually one paragraph, introduces the central purpose of the essay, arouses a reader's curiosity, provides directon for the reader and writer, outlines a clear, limited statement of the essay's purpose and is definite (takes a stand).
Body: Usually about 3-5 paragraphs, fulfills the purpose stated in the introduction, expands or elaborates the initial ideas, organised around the key points from the introduction, uses topic sentences*, rivets the reader's attention to the central point and uses examples from the text to support the central argument.
*A topic sentence is the opening sentence of a paragraph that states the topic or the key point. This should be strong and definitive.
Conclusion: Brings the writing to satisfactory close, shows that the promise made in the introduction has been met and never apologises for covering the topic inadequately.
Note: If you want to understand how to write an essay in more detail, do a google search. You'll get tonnes of information on how to write and essay.

It is important that your essay has three parts to it. The introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction should just tell what you hope to prove in the essay and introduce the paragraphs ahead. Most people write the introduction last as you have to know what you are introducing to write it.
First you have to analyse the question, find the active parts of the question and consider them. Think where your information will come from and then methodically go through the information find salient points and then synthesising your own understanding of the information.Make sure you cover all angles of the argument.
In the paragraphs use flow words as flow is important in any essay for good marks.
The conclusion is made up of a weighing up of all arguments above, do not introduce any new information into the conclusion and then give a general opinion on the subject.
It is a marks loser if you write in the first person, also saying them or they as the marker will say who are you talking about.
I not long just handed in an essay, I have done all the extra learning courses just so that I could get great marks and these are all the hints and tips they gave me, this is for academic writing for university so it will also apply for high school too. Good luck!

Look up the Ogallala Aquifer. It's an enormous body of subterranean groundwater that lies underneath the central U.S. It currently serves a huge function in that the water is used for irrigation, and whatever else we use water for. We're using the water at an incredible rate, and have been for a loooong time. I've heard estimates that we might actually empty the thing within the 21st Century. We are very dependant on it. If WW3 is going to be about water, it's entirely possible it will be started by the U.S. looking for new sources of water abroad when we use up the Ogallala.
Another scenario could be that pollution makes so much of the fresh water in the world undrinkable, there's not enough to go around between big nations who will fight over it, like the U.S., China, Japan, Korea, some of Europe, India, you get the idea. So...they do fight over it, and the losers end up very thirsty, very minor powers on the world stage.
Those are good starting points, and there's probably plenty I haven't thought of. As for actually writing the thing, the basic structure goes like this.
Intro Paragraph
Body Paragraph 1
Body Paragraph 2
Body Paragraph 3...etc...
Conclusion
Each body paragraph is a separate point of your essay. The Intro gives a brief overview of the topic and previews how the points will be organized (and what they are). The conclusion is another overview that highlights your main conclusion (like, what are we supposed to get out of this essay, what's the point).

An essay contains several parts to convey it's message. Introduction, body with supporting evidence and statements (we call it "BS" when there is little time to do a lot of research) and finally a conclusion.
In the introduction, you want to illustrate the point of your essay, which is sometimes called a Thesis Statement. Throughout the body of the essay, you provide facts or opinion that support your argument of the Thesis. The conclusion re-states the Thesis and gives a brief synopsis of the body.
Each paragraph of the body should contain it's own point. For example, if I were writing an essay on Columbus, I would introduce him in the introduction, within the body display his work as an explorer and discovery of the Western Hemisphere. The conclusion would briefly illustrate how Columbus had unknowingly changed the course of history by his accidental discovery of North and South America instead of another Spice Route.
Lastly, don't abbreviate or use slang. Spell and punctuate properly as this IS an important part of the competition as well.
Good Luck!! :-)

The essays that I write that work well for me are five paragraph essays. I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I hope it will work.
Your first paragraph is used for an attention grabber (a statistic works good for that), thesis, and what you are going to be talking about (for a five paragraph essay, it is three different main ideas). Then your next three paragraphs are the body (each body paragraph is one of the the three main ideas). Finally your conclusion restates your thesis, but not exactly the same, ties up all loose ends, and leaves the reader something to think about (I like ending with a question that the reader can apply to their life).
Good luck :-)

The easiest way I found for writing essays is to choose a topic you can discuss easily and record yourself talking about it, as if you were speaking to an audience. Take the recording and write it out on paper in more formal language. This will give the essay a conversational flow. Also, record a dinner conversation on the topic to get different views and information on the topic. Also, refrain from informal language "so he was, like, cool". You will lose points on that . Good luck.

For the first Intro paragraph I would Introduce the factors of war.
Second; introduce the number of posibul causces for this OR discribe why there have been so many 'predictions' about the 3RD WW.
from there i am stumped..

the most important point is making the outline. And then put them in groups. Then you can write them in paragraph. Sometimes I start an essay with anecdote and stories, it helps the readers understand the points.

Definitely witch. Will has put it very succinctly. You can watch 2 movies about her: The sanitized Hollywood hagiography 'Evita' or the excellent independent Argentine cinema 'Don't Cry for me Little Maria' (released the same year). I know which one I believe.
