The mouse on my Dell Latitude D610 is frozen. How do I fix it?

Dell Latitude D610 Keyboard

I repair dells, and am using that same model now.

I'm thinking either the cable came unplugged, or it stopped functioning and needs to be replaced. At first I was thinking drivers, but if you uninstall the drivers, the touchpad will behave erraticly but it will still function.

If you want to check the cable you can. turn off the computer remove the battery, and unscrew the screws labled K on the bottom side of the laptop. flip it back over, open the lid and gently lift up the keyboard. The keyboard's cable is on the bottom by the touchpad, so swing the top of the keyboard gently towards you.Don't jerk it up too fast, the keyboard cable is not very long. You will see the cables and connections for the touchpad under the keyboard, check them and see if they haven't came loose.

If they are tight, you probably need to replace it, but you can find that part pretty cheap on ebay. Which is why I'm partial to dell laptops btw, cheap parts. If you need the software driver, email me I'll send it to you, but I don't think that's the problem. Usually without the driver, the dell pointer will drift wildy to the left hand side of the screen. my screen name @yahoo.com is my email If needed.

btw in the meantime, just plug a usb mouse into it so you can use your laptop again.

First, see if you have disabled it by accident by locking the onboard mouse, usually there is a button near the ball or touch pad. I don't know specifically about Dell but both hp and IBM have this feature. There is a button to disable and one for enable. Could be a toggle.

Second option, buy a cheap mechanical or optical mouse (about $12 mechanical) and plug it in via the USB port. This will usually be controlled by a different driver and get to Windows. You can just plug and play. Be sure you get the USB type of mouse.

Third option, you can try to re-install the touch pad mouse driver. You do this through the Control Panel.

If everything works via the keyboard, it will be something simple. Happened to me before. Good luck.

I was also facing same issue with dell laptop, I tried a lot to fix that however I was not able to fix that. At last I just visited http://dell.customer-supports.com/ and made a call on their toll free. I instantly got a certified technician to fix my computer only in a single call.

Try defrosting it (LOL).

Kidding aside, try system restore to the date when they were working normally.
