Since those in the top 10% of incomes pay most of the taxes, why not let them pay all of the taxes.?

I think incomes below 200 thousand should not be taxed.

Update:

Leonard, Clinton added 1.2 Trillion to the National Debt. You have been listening to NPR too much. Try www.publicdebt.treas.gov and find historical annual debts to the treasury.

Update 2:

Rick N.

I am a conservative who just had to cough up more money to support the bloatted government.

Update 3:

Susanhope

You are correct. The 16th Amendment giving Congress the power to tax at will was not legally ratified.

That would be a great idea, except for one thing. Income tax is an unconstitutional fraud, and should never have been established in the first place, has no right to exist, and should be abolished immediately, and there are groups of people working very hard to make that happen. There are also others who are working hard to increase awareness of the history of the Federal Reserve, and the IRS, and the income tax.....when they were established, and who established them, and for what purpose. Everyone should watch google and watch the movie, America from freedom to fascism! *sm*

On the eve of the 15 th., your "dream" is worth a few comments.

What if the Clinton plan were continued?

Remember, "surpluses far as the eye can see"?

Taking down national debt from six trillion, to 5.4 trillion in three years, everyone expected to be debt free by year 2012.

Then nobody would need to pay taxes.

You have enough fines and excise taxes to keep a two trillion dollar budget going, so why tax the working poor?

The problem, in a nutshell is that individuals pay much more than corporations pay, while corporations find loopholes and phony off shore tax havens.

Unless this trend reverses itself, see more and more poorer folks taking on second and third jobs, both husband and wife. Pathetic.

I don't listen to "NPR". I listen to my source.

Unless and until those we elect to officiate decide to cut off their umbilical cord and get the corporations to pay up, then bleed those on the bottom rung some more!

Thought you would enjoy this answer:

Tax Cuts - A Simple Lesson In Economics… This is how the cookie
crumbles… Please read it carefully…

Let’s put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every
day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If
they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like
this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing!!!

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh $7.

The eighth $12.

The ninth $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do.

The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy
with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.

“Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the
cost of your daily meal by $20.”

So, now dinner for the ten only cost $80. The group still wanted to pay
their bill the way we pay our taxes.

So, the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free!!!

But what about the other six, the paying customers? How could they divvy
up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his “fair share”???

The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they
subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth
man would each end up being “PAID” to eat their meal.

So, the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each
man’s bill by roughly the same %, and he proceeded to work out the amounts
each should pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).

The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before and the first four continued to
eat for free… But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare
their savings.

“I only got a dollar out of the $20,” declared the sixth man. He pointed
to the tenth man “but he got $10!”

“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar,
too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than me!”

“That’s true!!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back when
I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!”

“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get
anything at all. The system exploits the poor!”

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for dinner, so the nine sat
down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they
discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all
of them for even half of the bill!

Because then there would be no incentive to become a top earner in America, in fact you would be penalized.

Not only that, but then politicians would always try to write new laws that would tax the rest of us, siting that they need more money and the middle class has it and are not paying their dues.

Why are you leftists so full of class envy and hatred? Why on earth would you want to stifle the innovation and risk-taking necessary to start new businesses and employ people by disincentivizing potential entrepreneurs? Sweden has a tax system which does just that, and there will never be a Sven Gates.

Costa Rica doesn't tax the first 45k of income, after that it's a progressive scale.

That's a good idea. Before WW I only the rich paid income taxes. It's time we went did that again.

I'm a liberal, and even I don't believe in that. I don't mind paying taxes, espcially state and property. I have a bit of a problem paying to bomb innocent people and pay wealthy contractors, but I will still pay my taxes because I believe in supporting the country.

How about if everyone pays 10% with no exemptions.

If you tax the wealthy too much what do they do?

They will move their company out of the USA. And then we wont get any income tax from them.
