If it were not for the saving work of Christ, would we be spiritually alive, sick or dead?

In 1985 when they had the terrible famine in Ethiopia. I was really struck by the story of one man who had walked for 2 weeks carrying his dying child through the desert. He was so hungry that he had been eating sand to make his stomach feel full. He managed to get his child to a feeding station but sadly he died. God showed me very clearly then, that without Christ as our spiritual food, we may as well be eating sand. So yes, without His saving work, we can fill ourselves to the brim with substitutes but would be spiritually dead.

even with the saving work some of us are still spiritually dead.

We'd be spiritually dead but we still need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling as the Apostle Paul said....that means we are saved by grace, but every day sanctification takes work...living for the Lord every day.

without the death of Christ we are already dead- that is why it is called born again= we have a spiritual death that goes beyond physical when we do not accept Christ- when we do we are made alive with Him.
"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
We are dead in are sin- made alive in Him!!!!

We could still be spiritually alive because we would still have God. I mean, just skim the Old Testament and you'll see that. What we wouldn't be able to do is ascend to Heaven, that's what one really big thing that came about form Christ's reserection.
