spinning question?

not sure if this qualifies for a cycling question but no other board seemed to help so here goes..i've been doing spinning for about 2 months now and have advanced to the point where i can do the stand and pedal and the climb...now i've developed a huge lump on the back of my left leg, figuring an Achilles tendon inflammation and an wondering if this could be from the standing part of the ride since i am new to the stand and climb part..i do have a minor issue with my left knee and that has started hurting a bit so i'm not sure if i've been compensating for the knee by subconsciously positioning my left foot a bit different on the pedals and that has caused this Achilles tendon to flare up...i'm thinking maybe since just the one is inflamed...thanks in advance for any info

Update:

i do know my positioning with the pedals, handle bars and such is correct...and that i am pedaling correctly, after the first class of not doing it correctly i figured out...as for the shoes i've been loosing weight the past couple months and am hesitant to spend money right now for a pair that might not fit me soon..ive lost 20 pounds these past 6 weeks and my shoe size has shrunk about half a size so far

    Hi there!

Just wanted to go over some basics with you...

First - Make sure you have proper leg extension. Have a SLIGHT bend in your knee when the pedal is all the way at the bottom of the stroke.

Second - Make sure you are powering the pedal with the ball of your foot. no the heel or arch but, the ball of the foot.

Third - I would look at getting into a clipless shoe and cleat. Most bike shops can help you out in this footwear. You will get SOOOO much more out of your workout. Check others around you and get their feedback, This is the best recommendation I have for you so far!

Good luck - spinning is fun too!

Is your Achilles hurting...you didn't say.

I do spinning and I do find sometimes they work you too hard. By spinning super fast you do have a chance of straining a joint more than if you just add more resistance and spin slightly slower. Don't feel you have to spin as fast ans the teacher. I bike regularly outdoors, and i never pedal that fast when riding a bike for real. When you are standing, stay at pace where you can control the bouncing up and down. Generally I know I am working hard enough to gain fitness when my heartrate goes through the roof. You are not going to burn fat any faster by spinning uncontrollably. Ask the instructor to take a look. He may not be a trained sport doctor, but he should offer something.

Don't know about the bump, it could be anything. Go and see a physio.

The knee I can help you with, as I had something similar. Your leg muscles have developed from all of this exercise that you are doing. Your tendons, on the other hand, have not had time to aclimatise to the new muscles, so your knee cap is being pulled off of centre. You need to do some stretching exercising in order to compensate.

GO and see your GP and get a physio referal.

    Luck

I would try a couple of things. I would definitely try a dedicated cycling shoe if you are not using one already. Oftentimes, injuries resulting from soles that are too soft or flexible can result when putting too much pressure on one area of the foot. You can either try a more conventional sneaker with a stiff sole, or a shoe that will integrate with clipless pedals. Either one will be effective in generating more power, getting more out of your workout, and keeping your foot healthy.

You need to visti with a doctor. It seems you have a serious issue. If your knee hurts you need to build muscles around you knee to replace the weight on your knee. Perhaps some squats and lunges. But whatever you do visit a doctor. i hope you feel better.

the following is her accurate quote: What i desire them to understand is: similar to John Wayne grow to be from Waterloo, Iowa, that’s this variety of spirit I genuinely have too! What precisely are we spinning the following? She said it, no human being forced her too. She may have pushed an hour down the line and had her speech in his genuinely delivery position. Why are you blaming liberals for what she said? you want to play the blame recreation element a finger at her team for no longer catching it formerly she made a fool out of herself.
