Why does my baby throw up after drinking milk???
hello, I have a 14 month old girl. She was breastfed until she was about 10 months old. After her pediatrician said it was okay I started giving her cow's milk. She is usually okay, but sometimes she throws up. It is not all the time, just soemtimes. Why is this happening? She has been off the bottle for months now. When she throws up it is usually a few minutes after and she throws up the entire cup of milk! What could it be. Thanks!

it is common for a baby up to around 12 months old to throw up after a bottle but by 14 months old your daughter should now be keeping down her milk pretty much all the time with perhaps the odd sicky spell.
If this happens regularly try taking her to the doctors and ask for their opinion but sounds like your daughter could possible have a milk intolerance and usually soya milk is used as a substitute.
If it happens very rarely it shoudlnt be a problem and should happen less and less over the coming months but if this is something that happens atleast once a week take her along to the doctors to get their opinion,,, good luck.

I have two boys and with my first born, something similar happened to him. I would give him a bottle and he would throw half of it back up. I took him to the doctor and he changed his milk. He was on formula. After he changed his milk it slowed down but did not stop. Well I told my aunt about the situation and she told me that I was feeding him too much milk. I was giving him a full eight ounce bottle but I took him down to 4 ounces and it stopped completely. Another thing you might want to ask your doctor is if your child is lactose intolerant. Your baby is old enough for you to start introducing baby food. Nothing heavy, fruits and veggies. The more you introduce food the less milk she would have to drink. If you introduce foods make sure you only give her one food at a time for a three day period. This will let you know if your baby is allergic to the food.

hi,
My son's who's now 5 1/2 y.o. use to do the same as a small baby. He threw up so much one time I got so scared. He was taken to the ER and all. Try to give her 2 % milk. Recently I'd my kids Dad, the idiot got the regular whole milk and it made my son throw up and his sister who's now 3 1/2. Try the 2%. Let me know how it works out ok. Good luck.
Honeslty,
Martie

You should look into a soy-milk, I am not all for soy-milk but in this case I would try it. See if it helps, if it does they wait a few weeks and then try a little bit of organic milk (it doesn't contain the hormones or antibiotics). It doesn't seem right that she is throwing up often, also look at what she is eating when she does throw up.
Hope this helps.

Could be a milk allergy. Some doctors recommend goats milk. It is a little easier on the stomach. Also, you could try soy milk...that's good for allergies too...but some kids are allergic to soy too :0(

It could be a food allergy, when I was younger I would throw up every time I drank milk , and I would be very cranky. I was taken to the doctors and they found out I was allergic to all dairy products and nuts (no previous food allergies in my family)

She might allergic to regular milk. I know my children where I gave them goats milk that worked out great until they got older. I would check with the DR. to see if she needs to drink something else. You might consider soy milk also.

well, the only thing that i could think it would be is maybe the milk is too heavy on her tummy. Because cows milk is alot heavier, and thicker than formula and breast milk. Or she might be allergic to it.
Try this, make sure that you burp her sooner than you would with formula, like with formula you would usually burp every ounce, but maybe you should try burping her every half ounce. maybe that might work.

My son had the same problem. Its not just spitting up, its actually vomiting. just milk though. they said it was some type of reflex thing. You almost think they are not getting enough milk because of how much they vomit. Good luck!!!!!!!
