Anyone surprised?

Am I the only person not surprised by the recent shootings at a college in America?

Surely any country that makes it so easy to get guns & ammunition cannot be surprised when people get shot?

Update:

I know America isn't the only country with violence problems. My point is that most of it has been brought on by "The right to bear arms".

The best way to get shot is to carry a gun.

Definately not surprised. Even on Sky news the event was phrased as if it's just another college shooting.

I'm just glad I never had to go to college in the United States. The whole gun thing there is freaky beyond belief. I know it's not like people can't get hold of such weapons here (Ireland) and in the UK, but the fact it's socially unacceptable makes it less likely (to a large extent) for some otherwise normal kid to get hold of one and shoot his peers.

The US government needs to start sorting it's own country out. Protecting the country starts at home.

We used to carry guns in South-Africa as well. I used to have a 9 mm and a 357 magnum. Personally i felt safe , i knew how to use it but had to sell it to move to UK. Gun's in the wrong hands are bad and i feel that guns should be locked away in a safe when not in use by those who own them. A person is always surprised when someone starts shooting kids at a school or wherever, that is the last thing you expect , but then those who do that kind of thing is not right in their minds.

Not since I watched the students run out of Columbine High School, one dead on the lawn, one hanging out a window have I been so sick. I am grateful the coverage is not all day on TV as was then. If this is the anniversary as well. God why have we fallen so far? Not surprised, no. Another 15 minutes of fame suicide, maybe? No facts yet. Here comes ABC Special News Break 1:32pm EST. S*it Atleast 29 dead shooter killed himself

    maybe 32 dead.

it was much easier some years ago for good people to get guns and guess what there were not nearly as many people getting shot.it has nothing to do with getting a gun and every thing with some one wanting to hurt others

it takes a mad man or crazy person to do such a thing but if he couldn't get a gun to do it he would get on line and learn to make a bomb out of household cleaners and blow them up instead of shooting them.

we should not be for taking guns away from good people maybe we should start locking the nuts up, oh yea some years ago we did that crazy people went to the nut house. we cant do that any more,my point if we cant put the nutty people where they need to be please don't take away my only way to defend my self and my family if one of them comes to my house to hurt my children

my heart goes out to all those that have lost some one they love in this horrible thing that has happened, my prayers are with them all. I do know how hard it is to lose some one that you love.

The sad thing is that the americans will still argue for their inalienable right to have guns. And guns are a truly great way to solve arguments - the person who gets shot won't argue back at least. If this had happened in my country (U.K.) then guns would be outlawed in about half a second. Really, really sad!

freedom to carry or own a gun is the American way of life... this is what happens when guns are so easy to get hold off...

so well done to the USA, keep up the good work with these laws....

best sort of freedom being able to go to college and shoot 32 kids.... ban the sell of guns..... best way...

I certainly wasn't surprised-any country where owning a gun is a right is asking for this kind of thing.

    Not surprised but deeply saddened.

It is far too easy to get hold of a gun, both legally and illegally, but it takes a really bad form of mental illness to even contemplate acting out such a horror.

Brings back memories of Dunblane and other atrocities.

Sorry but I don't know what the answers are.

If it was 'the best way to get shot is to carry a gun' then WHY DIDN'T MORE PEOPLE DIE IN THE OLD WEST where people 'commonly' carried a gun in a hip holster? You CAN NOT say that this 'killing' was caused by the 'ease' it is for Americans to 'buy guns' any more than you can say that making it 'harder' to buy guns would 'stop' what happened. It would be FAR BETTER if people didn't think that getting 'help' from a MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL could 'ruin their lives' ... but I can't see THAT happening any time in my lifetime ...

Source(s): I'm a psychologist. I'm 56 years old ... but I still 'have hope' for this 'world of ours' because some people are always 'advancing mental health' ... just not 'fast enough' to help ALL of the 'victims' in this case ... INCLUDING THE SHOOTERS.
