Ulcers in toddler's mouth? Doc said the name of the viral condition begins with a G?

Husband took our son to the doctor - can't remember the name of the virus or condition except that it began with a G. It is also all over his gums but it is not gingivitis. Not the virus that causes hand-foot-mouth either.

Update:

THATS IT - my husband said that was it. I was afraid of that...gingivostomatitis

It could be Gingivostomatitis. It is a viral infection of the mouth and gums that causes swelling and sores. Its caused by the herpes Simplex 1 virus which also causes fever blisters. It is very common in children.

I know you said it started with a G but could it be Thrush? Do you have it on your nipples as well (if breastfeeding of course)

Hope I helped and hope your little one gets healthy soon. I know how hard it is to watch your little one suffer.
