Can't say that I have ever really thought of goldfish as really bright lol

I have seen plenty of fish get caught in a siphon, but killed by it is a new one on me. Don't get me wrong, I can see how it could happen certainly, but just never herd of it before.

  • My son had a tank cleaner that was just a big tube open only at the bottom. It was about two inches in diameter and there was no way the fish could get in while it was scratching around in the gravel. There was a small tube that took the water to the bucket and it had a shut off valve to use when he lifted it out of the gravel. See if you can find one like that.

I've never seen that either. How strange! How on earth did a siphon kill a fish? I've seen smaller fish swim up into them, but they either a) get stuck or b) swim back out.

I love goldfish for all my other plethora of tanks, I still love my goldfish the best. But I have to admit, they are dumb.

You know how the say "don't use gravel small enough to fit in the mouth"? Well, I've actually SEEN a goldfish choke to death on gravel, though does a fish truly choke. But it took up a piece of gravel, it got stuck, I could SEE it, I even tried to get it out with tweezers!

    Stupid Gold fish!

yes, goldfish can be trained, but trainability and intelligence are two different things.

One time I left the grill off the intake tube for my hanging filter. One of my redcap orandas got his head stuck in it and by the time I saw it and unplugged the pump so he could get away, his eye was popping out, his gills were bent out on one side, he was all swolen and all he could do was swim in a circle. I felt so bad, I didn't even know how long he was stuck there like that. He eventually recovered though and returned to a normal shape.

I don't think they are dumb, I just think they have a hard time getting around and can't really do what they want to.

It relies upon. I examine someplace that they've a memory span of three seconds. It relies upon from goldfish to goldfish i assume. yet memory span of decrease than 10 seconds frequently means that they are vstupid.

well what probably happened was that since the gravel contains uneaten food it probably smelled it or something and decided to try to eat it/follow it and zphlll squish dead

actually, it has recently been discovered that goldfish have long term memory (not just 20 seconds like most people believe), AND they can be trained to do very simple things.

    Most other fish cant.
