Why is the fan on the back of my computer so loud today?
Does is mean the computer is getting old? I've had it since 2004. Its a Dell, desktop.
I meant does IT mean the computer is getting old. LOL!

Most likely the reason for the loud sound is that the fan's bearings are going out on it...You will need to replace it very soon...If you don't & it stops working all together...then lots of stuff in the computer will overheat and could permanently damage them...Fans are cheap...average price is $5.

well it is getting old but it was really loud because it was about to overheat. my computer was purchased in nov. 2004 and now it runs like crap. i need a new one. mynes fan is like that all of the time, its so annoying!
