Why do honest law abiding citizens not legally arm themselves?
Why do people that have a constiutional right to own and carry guns not do so. If every person that could carry did carry then situations similar to the tragedy of 3/16/07 Virginia tech could be stopped before so many were violently killed. I think that if those teachers would have shot Cho Seung-Hui as he started shooting we would have one or two dead as opposed to 30+. Please let me know what you think. Try to keep it honest and original thanks.

Personally, I don't carry because I haven't convinced myself I would shoot if put in a situation where I would need to shoot. If I carry and don't shoot, I've just given the attacker a way to secure another firearm.
There are lots of reasons others don't carry. My wife just thinks guns are bad. Some people don't want to take the time to become well trained. Some just can't afford good weapons. Others figure that there are good people out there already carrying and trust them to protect the general populace.
You can come up with all kinds of reasons why others don't carry. For this situation, I believe the Virginia Tech campus is a no firearms campus, which would be why no one in this particular incident had a firearm.

I agree with you, however I respect others right to not carry a gun. I just don't want it being imposed on me. If they don't trust teachers with guns, give them tazers or something along those lines. Give them some form of protection because the police can't be everywhere nor can they predict these sort of things, if no one will come forward.
Personally, I think specifically for situations pertaining to incidents like these school shootings could prevent the need to carry them in this type of setting either if they are closed campuses or when there are warning signs, someone that sees the signs, speaks up and says something.

You can. This person had green card and legally bought a 9mm Glock handgun. This handgun is used by law enforcement and security. It is very effective for its intended purpose. To stop a perceived threat to life. It is used very judiciously under very extreme situations. Many law enforcement personnel are trained not to use deadly action.
Ok, I want to pack a Glock 9mm, I got a license and a permit to carry undercover by the state of NY. Perfectly legal. I attend a class at NYU in Manhattan. Some one shoots the professor. I see the shooter and draw my weapon and kill the shooter. I am now in jail for manslaughter for 10 years.
Why you ask why? I was not in "intimate" danger to use deadly force. Sure I stopped the further threat. The DA will get me out in 2 years.
No Sir there is no answer for the use of guns. I feel for all the students, family and faculity at V-Tech.

Personally, I don't want a gun in my home. I grew up with guns in the home and it was not a big deal. However, I work in a health setting and am aware of side effects of having a gun in the home that are unnerving to me.
I understand that some people choose to use guns to protect themselves, hunt, shoot for hobby, whatever. Like a previous respondent said, that is his/her choice to own a gun just like it is my choice not to own one.
A tragedy like the one at Virginia Tech is one that is unpredictable, very sad, and scary. However, there are always going to be individuals that choose to do crazy things.

Laws in some states don't allow people to carry, not the peoples fault for not carrying. There are a lot people that would carry if the law allowed them too.

I need my AR-15. I do not need to explain to any wanna be tyrant why I do. I will let you in on it though. The AR is very useful in training my nephews haw to properly handle a firearm. The low recoil and light weight makes it ideal to teach marksmanship. My daughter is four, she is still afraid of the noise but I am sure that I will be training her on it. I am sure this is one of the reasons the US military went with a similar rifle. I too used the gun during another hurricane. I am certain that the reason I was left alone by looters was the intimidating appearance of the Bushmaster. But the real reason I own the "black rifle" is to defend myself against the people that want to grab them; all for my safety of course. I am not saying Obama, Kerry, Schumer, Feinstein and Reid are the only tyrants in the world but I do love the fact that me and my ugly gun scare them so badly. I have Glocks and tactical shotguns to deal with the criminal elements. I have a variety of rifles for hunting deer, feral hogs, bears, frogs, rabbits and squirrels. The AR-15 is for defense against tyranny.

I don't carry a gun because
1. I have a son and even locked up he'd find it
2. Guns scare me
3. I'm afraid I'd hurt myself in the wrong frame of mind

Because we are free to choose. Simple as that. I own guns because I'm free to do so. I won't put someone down because they decide that guns aren't for them. Just like I don't expect someone to put me down because I enjoy target shooting and carry a gun for defense.

Because so many of the gullible "I'd never own a gun" types have been brainwashed to believe they will be safer if the only guns are in the hands of the Military, the Police and THE THUGS.

because the law abiding citizens did not carry their guns on a campus that says 'NO GUNS ALLOWED".
