Do you believe The Case For War?

Source: http://www.pbs.org/weta/crossroads/about/show_the_...

Richard Perle gave a presentation in a one hour video stating his case for the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.

This video was aired this week on public TV and gave Mr. Perle full reign to present his case as he saw fit.

For those who actually saw the whole hour video, do you think that Richard Perle is a credible spokesperson for his views, and was his presentation fair and balanced?

I saw the show last night. I didn't agree with much of what Perle suggested. I did however feel he was articulate in the presentation of his opinion. Since it was his video and he was presenting his case I don't think he was required to be fair and balanced. He did cover a wide range of opinions in his video and did not attack or villify those he disagreed with. He was however always able to get the last word in because it was his opinion and his video.

I specifically did not agree with his argument that it was somehow unfair to those who died in Iraq if we left. I think an equal or more compelling argument can be made that it is even more unfair to those who will die in Iraq if we do not relinquish control of Iraq to the Iraqis and leave. That argument becomes exponentially greater if we stay for many more years (and more people die) but we are still unable to stabalize a region that has been unstable for hundreds of years.

The documentary makers who put this video together did a reasonable job of presenting Mr. Perle talking to a wider range of people than I had expected. He is as credible as the position he supports.

However, I believe that Mr. Perle has become so settled in his beliefs that nothing would move him from the course he took when he became who and what he is.

I'm thankful that this one hour of his views were surrounded by much better and candid examinations of the reality of our presence in Iraq.
