I own a 1996 Ford Mustang w/ 152K miles w/ automatic transmission.?
My problem is that I hear and feel vibrations coming from the trunk area of my car. This always happens when I am acclerating up an incline when I am in the 40-45 MPH range. This sometimes happens when I am on a level road too. These are not slight vibrations. When this happens, you definitely know that it is happening. I am thinking that this could possibly be a transmission problem. If so, how much would this cost to fix? If you don't think that this is a transmission problem, what could be causing these vibrations and how much would it approximately cost to fix? Thanks for any advice and/or help.

Sounds like a ' U-joint '. With the car's tires chocked & trans in ' N' git under it & see if'n the drive shaft wiggles. Good Luck ! Also.... keep up with ALL the required maintenance for yer car & she'll run well a long time

Vibrations are sometimes hard to pinpoint. A vibe on a certain part can make other things seem like they are vibrating. A new tranny is around 1500 for that, not counting labor. The vibration you have could also be the rear end. They will vibrate like that when they are going bad also, so have that checked first. Also a offbalanced driveshaft can cause that problem as well. You can have a driveshaft rebuilt and balanced for around $75.00, depending on where you go . Hope it helps, and dont forget,, ALWAYS... start with the cheapest, and work your way up. You can put money into a car all day long and still never fix the problem. If you have a cottman transmission shop in your area, they offer free tranny checks.

I have an '06 auto mustang GT V8. I don't know how to drive stick very well, so went with an auto for convenience (and because I would be driving the car every day). I'd like a manual just for the fun of it, but don't really mind either way. the car is the funnest thing ever. in terms of how fast the car accelerates in comparison to a manual, its not a big difference (tenths of a second). if it really matters to you, a custom ECU tune can make an automatic car shift faster. its a matter of what you want to deal with if the car is going to be your everyday car or just a weekend toy. if you feel like having to pay enough attention to shift a manual every day, do it. but there's really not a point to one unless you really enjoy driving stick, which a lot of people do. auto GT mustangs (the V8 ones) are harder to find than stick ones, and base V6 stick shift mustangs are harder to find than auto ones. cars similar to a mustang (but different in price) include the nissan 370/350Z, the mazda rx-8, the chevy camaro, the dodge challenger, and the dodge charger. all of those are generally more expensive than a mustang, some by a lot, some by a little.

niceguyi Hi I would first check the universal joints on the drive shaft ..Still have noise ?? Start with the rear axles & brakes ..Still noise ... I would then look into the rear end your ring & pinion or plantry gears may be going . A transmission problem is connected to shifting in proper or slipping ... I would almost say your problem is in the drive shaft or rear end area... Find a shop that works on rears . A lot of shops farm this type of work out ...It will be big $$$$ good luck

I have a ford ranger and just recently it was doing a similar thing...seems like when I'd get between 40-60mph it would start shaking violently...also there were sounds like clicking or popping..turned out it was the U-joints, I went to a local parts store and bought both u joints for bout $11 apiece and took the parts up to a shop and had them fix it-it shouldn't take a shop more than 45 min so depending on their specific hourly rate which shouldnt be for than $70 to have it fixed. after having them replace it ran smooth as ever at all speeds...good luck!

most likely your clutches in the trans are slipping, try flushing the transmission. you need to get all the old fluid out so it's not just a normal trans service.

the trunk area would be where your rear end is, the trans is more up between the driver passenger area.
