Short could be a week eg. I will have my 4 page essay completed by the end of the week.

Medium might be in the span of 1 year.eg. I plan to have my first aid certificate and driver's licence at the end of this year.

whilst long term can be"what do you want to do for the rest of your life? eg. I will graduate from uni. in 2 years then take up a career in social welfare, where I plan to stay for at least 10 years. During this time I will volunteer at a youth centre, to give back to the community and to gain an insight into youth homelessness.

An employer can gain an insight into how well you can plan into the future / how motivated you are to achieve / how positive you are in your approach to life etc by the answers that you give.

The answers need to come from the heart / what is your passion / what do you really want to do with your life?

If asked engage them with your answer and take your time because it is your time to sell yourself. Good luck!

    just answer honestly..

short term goals are things that you would like to accomplish in, lets say, the next five to ten years.

long term goals are things that you want to accomplish when you're older or before you die.

If you are unsure then you should consider asking yourself these questions before the interview.

No one on here can tell you what your goals are, its all about you - and what you want!

but usng myself as an example:

short term: finish undergraduate school, get into law school, finish, pass bar, become a prosecutor.

long term: get married, have kids, eventually become a judge (hopefully supreme court level), write a few books, own my own business, etc..

just think about your life and what you want to accomplish and then categorize it by short term/long term :)

    hopefully this helps

When someone asks you your long term goals, be honest.

I want to film a movie, be an author, build a house, ect... are goals people admire.

Short term goals are a bit more difficult... especially in an interview. They want to know that you won't be miserable there, so whatever it is, line it up with the job. "I want to have a job that's fun, or involves computers, or travel ect". As well as "I want to buy a house soon." Or even "I want to send my kid to a private school and learn yoga."

Source(s): I've had every job from dishwasher to Director of Operations.

for example, as fresh graduate looking for design engineer, short term goal can be learnt to design, long term goal can be as a successful design engineer helping company growth.

a account student can have short term goal gain industrial experience in handling whole set of account where as long term goal can be be a successful accountant.

    agree must be honest.
